  • Funny how democrats always call "authoritarian" to any government that is slightly to the left of them, but they do not dare to criticize Netanyahu, Pinochet, Franco, Saudi Arabia or any other authoritarian right wing regime. Those are always good for some contrived reason.

  • Lemmy was founded by communists and it follows a lot of communist principles.

If you don't want to deal with that, Reddit is next door and it's 100% suited for centrists and right-wingers like you.

  • Current US: a neoliberal capitalist nightmare being ruined by CEOs

Your most intelligent American: This is definitely the socialists' fault

  • "Tankies"

The irony with this is that Lemmy was founded by communists and it follows a lot of communist principles.

  • The real reason is that German unification was done poorly and it benefited West Germany in a very disproportionate manner.

Most people and jobs migrated to west Germany and East Germany was left to rot.

Couple that with the fact that communism/socialism became a big taboo in Europe and capitalism's faults were completely ignored, even when it was visibly failing.

When you ban and stigmatize the left so much, people will turn to the only side that actually acknowledges something is wrong, and in this case, only the far right has done so.

  • People expect to pay a carpenter or a plumber for their services, why shouldn't entertainers and content creators be allowed to get paid for their work?

  • It is kinda bad. Especially when it comes to finding content or getting noticed

  • Which is why it's a big irony when people come to Lemmy to complain about communism/socialism.

Like, man, you are on a decentralized network run by volunteers who don't want to be monetized. You want to enjoy the benefits of socialism but at the same time complain about how bad it is and promote capitalism.

  • So your grudge isn't about people calling out the genocide? It is specifically about the "genocide joe" moniker?

  • Either you are blind or don't want to hear it. People have been calling out Trump for this genocide since day one. Heck, there's hundreds of posts doing that right now on Lemmy

  • It begrudgingly half-way adopted things that were already common everywhere, then for the next decades went around the world spreading fascism and ultra-conservatism everywhere it went.
The US has always been a deeply regressive country

  • Either way he would still be an anti-union jackass so I don't really care what he would think

  • What are you smoking?

The US actively worked against all of those movements. It proudly supported appartheid and colonialism in Africa, propped up fascist regimes in Latin America and opposed the independence of places like Vietnam. The US government didn't like anyone that implied blacks and whites were equal, and in fact anyone who dared to imply it was spied and silenced.

Most of those ideas were inspired by socialism and were supported by the soviet union, but you wont hear that awkward truth inside the american education system.

  • If you want Chichen Itzá to turn into a quiet library it's not going to happen.

It's one of the seven wonders of the modern world, you have the same experience if you visit the Vatican or the pissa tower.

There are many other sites in Yucatan that don't receive as many visitors like ek' balam and mayapan. Those are usually less crowded.

  • All of these had to be closed off because jackasses who tried to take away a piece of the monument, or because they didn't tread well and fell down.

  • I've been there many times.

"My objection is to the authorities who have permitted this kind of presence at a heritage site"

Not allowing them would wreck the local economy. It will not happen.

  • No matter how much you try, Chichen Itzá will never be tranquil, it is visited by thousands of tourists every day, so it will always be crowded and full of voices.

Vendors are usually local indigenous people, and selling to tourists is their only source of income, it would be silly on their part not to take advantage of the situation.

  • Stucco is much more fragile and degrades rather quickly.

That's why it usually hasn't survived in these monuments and why it usually isn't restored, it would cost way too much on maintenance.

  • If something bad came from the Soviet dissolution (besides the extreme decline of living standards in many of those countries) is that it completely killed any left-wing ideals in the west. Unions, welfare and common good were seen as "defeated" ideas, because capitalism had won. People still haven't recovered from the "capitalism won" mentality, so anything that comes even close to left wing is immediately shut down
