Feels like so many tech bubbles are about to burst
  • I would love to have a VR headset that didn't require a damn account with a 3rd party just to use it. I don't need an account for my monitor or my mouse. Plus when I bought the thing, it was just Oculus, then meta bought it and promised nothing would change, before requiring a meta account to use the fucking thing.

  • Eating less beef is a climate solution. Here's why that's hard for some American men
  • Not eating beef is pretty easy. Lots of alternatives.

I dropped beef and pork and stayed with turkey and fish.

Found a bunch of plant based options to replace the beef texture too.

It's really just some stupid mindset about STEAK that many Americans have.

  • How cheap/expensive is your cost of living in a low-cost area and a small paid off home?
  • In Florida. Small 3/2. Biggest expense is home insurance. In Florida it is crazy expensive. 10k a year with windstorm at a crazy high 20k deductible. And insurance demands a new roof under 15 years old, even if the roof has a 20 year warranty.

Taxes are 6k a year. That's with all the benefits I could claim.

Everything else is 2k a month.

Everything except house upkeep. Everything breaks and Everything is so expensive to get fixed with a pro. I've learned a lot of DIY , but there are things you just can't tackle. Plumbing, 220 electrical, HVAC... If anything breaks prepare to spend 1k to 7k depending

How do I buy a new television
  • I picked up an LG OLED 50 " on sale for $899.00 at Best buy. Pretty decent deal for a full OLED screen. It has all the smart shit, I just don't connect to wifi. Librelec works great through a PI. The HDMI transmits remote control through HDMI cable and I can control the media server with the same remote. Pleasant surprise.

  • Why do you care about privacy?
  • Improve user experience?

I don't give a flying fuck if a web page loads .5 seconds faster.

What u care about is an interface that works, has labels instead of symbols, that doesn't change every month trying to be more minimalist.

A bank website doesn't need my browser history or my charges to Amex or what pets I have or what car I drive or the color of my bedroom. But they want all that and a mobile phone number to tie it all up with a common index. VoIP numbers are refused because they change too often.

    That's what pisses me off

  • is there a set top media player that doesn't require an online account?

Onn needs a Google account. Fire stick requires an Amazon account. Apple tv, obviously an Apple account. PS5, Xbox all the same.

Is there a box that will let me stream Hulu, Netflix, Spotify, my own stored media?

Osmc is great for home stuff, but can't do Hulu Netflix.

I could use a Linux PC, but not as simple as 1 remote for a cheaper box top.

Any suggestions? Or do I just get a Linux host

What is a good starting point for learning about quantum fields

I went to college a long time ago. Since then the LHC verified the higgs boson. The higgs field and the higgs bubbles that separated quarks from antiquarks is something I've been looking at.

However I never took quantum mechanics and have little understanding of quantum fields. I would like to rectify that problem.

Can someone with knowledge give me a push in the right direction.... What books to start with, are there online lectures?

    Thank you

Trump tests limits of gag order with post insulting 2 likely witnesses in criminal trial
apnews.com Trump tests limits of gag order with post insulting 2 likely witnesses in criminal trial

Days after a New York judge expanded a gag order on Donald Trump meant to curtail “inflammatory” speech ahead of his upcoming criminal hush money trial, the former president tested its limits by disparaging two key witnesses in the case as liars.
