  • So he's willing to be dependent on Russia, especially as EU loses the reliability of one of its greatest historical ally, which also is the same one with the biggest arsenal.

If it's a matter of how quick it can be done, I understand that for some countries 2027 is too soon to adapt to such a big change, and wouldn't mind some form of leniency on the matter for such cases. But if by the time the contract ends in 2034 Slovakia doesn't think of an alternative along with other countries relying on Russian gas, it may as well invite Russia into it.

We're also not in an ideal position in terms of autonomous defense, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't find ways to be a more self-reliant continent who trades with others not because it needs, but because it wants.

  • I love how even basic nuanced political speech, obvious to your average informed viewer, goes completely over Trump's head - or he takes it as a compliment as he pats himself on the back. That's the ignoramus disease, everyone knows it, except for the ignoramus. And that's just sad and pitiful.

Goes to show how much of an coddled nepo baby Trump is, and how much Carney is used to navigate tough situations where he must keep his cool, but still diplomatically stand his ground. Y'know, the bare minimum expected of any politician - being at least somewhat skilled with words.

  • Well duh. What he means is:

    • Greenland yes, as it's a largely undefended territory except for american forces already there. And let's face it, it's still uncertain what Europe and most of NATO would do in response, apart from strong-worded letters of condemnation. Which has precisely 0 effect on a sociopath like Trump.
    • As for Canada not yet, because it can defend itself. Maybe after a bit of slow Russia-style political destabilization in order to weaken it, then they attack.

The art of the coward. Nothing short of a swift kick to the 'nads will stop a savage and animalistic neanderthal. They can't be reasoned with, and while it's a sad reality, it's still a reality.

  • If things keep going on the current path, eventually it's likely to happen, even if I really don't like that idea and want to be wrong. The best hope at the moment is in the US dealing with its situation internally and regaining at least some sense of normalcy before it gets to a point of true non-return and external retaliaton. With some indirect push by other nations like tariff retaliation and cutting strategic benefits to the US, just enough for the people to wake up and fight the oligarchs, but not so much shock that it triggers an actual war.

And I'm not joking. Trump literally said he rules America, as well as the world. He has stated that he won't stand for Canada and Europe partnering up to compensate for the lack of the US partnership, and he's won't let go of his wet dreams of annexation for several territories. He wants to be remembered as a "great man" in the history books, and not just another footnote billionaire. That kind of ambition is dangerous. Hitler-level dangerous.

For someone like him any excuse is valid. And just like he didn't take his 2020 election loss lying down, calling it rigged and urging an insurrection, he sure as hell won't leave the White House without sweat and blood being spilled, now that he's got his hooves on it again. We are dealing with savages who think themselves superior, and won't stop willingly.

  • You are actually very right. Calling them Republicans is not appropriate or correct, as the Republican movement was founded on a very different set of values and one only has to look at their history to compare the "then" with the "now".

These are indeed MAGA Nazi's in the true sense of the name. Just like the original Nazi's adopted a symbol of peace, the Swastika, and corrupted its meaning, these lowlifes co-opted the republican name and gave it new meaning.

They should absolutely be called what they act as, not what they say they are.

  • So... You take a prison which:

    • Generates $60M yearly from being currently a museum;
    • Needs serious rebuilding and modernization to even function at all;
    • Needs a way to be supplied with safe water, plus constant deliveries of all other necessities, likely by boat.

    And you get:

    • A prison which generates little to no revenue, while needing funds to be kept functioning.
    • Only has its name and somber history going in its favor, because "prisoners should be afraid of the historic haunted prison".

Yes. Brilliant idea, truly a Trump deal in all its glory, as we get to see how the casino-bankrupter's mind works. Hopefully by the time the prison is ready Trump and his cronies get to be the first "tenants". And whoever comes next declares the prison closed again and leaves them rotting there.

  • US could do that, sure.

But I bet it'd quickly find out just how much of its power, safety and bravado is due to being located in a geographically safe and isolated area with no real hostile armies trying to end them from the other side of the border.

Just how much of that willingness to fight comes from invading foreign underdeveloped territories across the sea, with little chance for the fight to make its way back to US cities and US civilians.

Easy to start fights from the comfort of a distant home, sending only military lives into the far away battlefield.

Something Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East can't claim, as they have to contend with potentially bad neighbors due to all sorts of reasons.

Go ahead, poke the bear, FAFO.

  • If not Nazi, why Sieg Heil-shaped? 🙄

On a completely unrelated topic, just look at Hitler sending his heart out to his people, how heartwarming.

  • I was under the impression he was an expert on due process. Like, no one knew due process as well as him. I could swear many people also praised him for it, and that no one had more due processes than Trump.

Heck, the guy knows more about poping than the Pope, so much he'd make the greatest Pope in history.

I'm really starting to think this Trump guy might not be that flawless a human like he claims all the time. 🧐

  • I really wouldn't, even though it's not my fight.

Harris was not the answer before, it won't be now. If the Democrat party still hasn't reached the obvious conclusion why they lost to such a pitiful opponent as Trump, then America is truly doomed since the only choices are Dumb and Dumber. Or who's the lesser evil.

There's a reason why many people did not vote for either party, which ultimately gave Trump the needed edge to win.

Keep the word salads, empty buzzwords and lack of accountability, keep the flashy fanfare, the cheap insults, and the over-the-top celebrity endorsements, keep showing the people how big and wasteful your show is while they starve on food stamps, keep hiding Biden's mental state while he's in office, keep underestimating and mocking the other side instead of breaking the cycle and actually leading by example. No wonder Trump simply had to tell the people he'd lower prices and end suffering and people gobbled it up knowing it came from the orange nepo baby fraudster, because they were that much desperate.

Keep showing you're part of the problem and not the solution, and then wonder why people don't see an obvious choice as to who is better for them.

Trump is not planning on ending this 2nd mandate, that much is obvious. But if you can get him out by any means it may take, it won't be that long before another Trump eventually makes its way into power.

Show why you're better, don't limit yourself to tell people why the other side sucks. They already know that much, and they're desperate for something better beyond appearance.

And anyone blindly defending the democrats just because the republicans are worse this time, instead of expecting them to do better, are part of the problem just as much as MAGA.

  • Right move. He really thinks everyone's as stupid as he is, or his supporters.

Not that he won't press the matter further, or even try to do it anyway if he sees the chance.

The only appropriate response to someone who is used to take others by force is a complete rejection and threat of painful consequences, since that's what savage Neanderthals respond to. Give an inch, he'll take Mexico whole.

  • Yup, as much as possible.

Basically "the US is hitting us hard, so we'll instead hit other countries in order to appease to US consumers". To me they're contributors to the problem, plain and simple.

  • You could elect a cabinet composed exclusively of orange cats united by a single and solitary shared braincell, and they wouldn't be as idiotic.

They'd be idiotic, for sure. They'd be entertaining as well. But at least they wouldn't be malignantly idiotic.

  • If it was the other way around he'd never let Carney hear the end of it - "Carney, the guy who had to get someone else to quit in order to keep his seat".

Politicians gonna politics, no surprise there.

  • I'm sure Vance would definetly know. He has his home TV, after all.

You can just tell he and the rest of Trump's cheerleaders are trying to undo any progress made during the Vatican meeting.

"Mr. President, don't fall for their manipulation, this war will never end, they wanna take us for a ride". You just know it.

  • Start giving Trump what he wants and he'll just take, take, take until there's nothing left.

And when we're in a worse position than if we had stood our ground he'll just label EU a sucker and go about his day.

Never give in to bullies. Even China knows that.

  • I think I see many reasons why Debby is no longer in the picture.

Anyways, how far along, truck chief?

  • Still not a complete shut down on him, since he's gonna serve in another position. But better than nothing.

More interestingly, many said Waltz (who created the first signal group) would be the one to get the axe first, and not Hegseth (the one actually leaking classified data, twice) - not because he fumbled, but because he publicly admitted it, he admitted he made a mistake.

Curious to see what happens next, but so far the prophecy holds true enough.

  • Some people joke about Carney's lack of a "celebrity charisma", or being "too boring".

Tells you all you need to know about why the US is going through its current "historic chapter".

Better to have an economist learn how to be a politician, than a politician learn to be an economist. Too many countries allow themselves and their parliaments devolve into complete fish markets where the person talking the loudest, or getting the cheapest "gotcha" moment, are deemed to be "awesome".

Give me boring, please. "interesting times" are only good to learn about in history books, not as they happen.
