Any MNT Reform laptop owner out there for a few questions?
  • I've been musing over it since they made the RK3588 processor module for it. That's a much more widely used chip and there should be more documentation on it floating around. I just love the idea of open source hardware, and the replaceable battery cells are neat. I love the thick form factor too. I'm good with computers but I'm not a wizard or anything, which is my hesitation. I know the Reform NEXT is supposed to be more user friendly, but a framework is a more sensible option for a "normal" usecase. But it doesn't have the pizaaz the reform does.

  • Do you use both a personal desktop and laptop?

I'm moreso curious if laptop functions have been offloaded to phones. If you have a full gaming desktop, do you see the use case for an additional laptop? or if most people here don't see the need for the increased processing power of a desktop, do you just use your laptop and a phone?

For myself, I mainly use my desktop, but I have a bunch of quite old laptops for tinkering.

  • Did you end up going for the MNT reform?

  • What are the coolest Lemmy communities you know?
  • Sorry I sortof just lurk, did someone pass away or is this related to the comic storyline?

  • What are the coolest Lemmy communities you know?
  • !unix_surrealism@lemmy.sdf.org

This is really unique, just take a peek at it and you will see what I mean.

  • How long have you had your current water bottle?
  • Nalgene covered in stickers, as was the style at the time. Somewhere around 5-6 years old at this point? Been through quite a lot.

  • What microphone are you using for Linux?
  • Shure SM58 going through an Audient ID4 audio interface. Pretty plug and play.

  • What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?
  • Cargo shorts are functional, you gotta rock the ol boy scout aesthetic.

  • What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?
  • As a man with a increasingly shiny dome, I wish this was the case. Until then I will endeavor with my unfashionable Tilley wide brim hat.

  • What are your favourite analogies for explaining difficult or complex concepts?
  • "Teaching sand how to think was a mistake".

  • What are your niche hobbies you’d like to share with other people?
  • Oh don't feel bad, my personal favorite and most expensive is my Pilot Custom 823. It holds a ton of ink and the nib is amazing

  • What video game have you played the most, that you think is garbage and no one else should ever play?
  • Mordhau. Terrible toxic community, developers that cater only to the super hard core players. Content droughts.. Yet I somehow stuck 500+ hours on it. Playing the lute was nice though.

  • What do you write with your pens?

So we all love pens for the pieces of art they are, but they're also tools. So, what do you write with your pens? Do you journal, do you take notes? Do you use fountain pens for everything or just certain activities?

Personally, I write a lot of snail mail letters to friends, and I also use mine to take notes. I've never done a journal before, but I'm thinking it may be useful in helping me unpack some things. Plus, Midori makes some very nice looking 3 and 5 year journals.

  • Oh nice, didn't know that was a community. I'll head on over.

  • What are your niche hobbies you’d like to share with other people?
  • This could be niche, but I'm a fountain pen nerd. I love stationary, different types of papers inks and nibs and how they all influence the writing experience.

  • Did posts get wiped? (SOLVED)
  • I've been having the most luck recently sorting by "top for 6 hours" and so on.

  • With the decline of twitter and reddit, it's time to take a look at RSS again if you haven't already.
  • I've been using Bazqux Reader since it's a single guy and seems to work well. I also know that Tiny Tiny RSS is a super cool self hostable one.

  • Getting ahead of potential Lemmy rush
  • Pictures you can hear. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

For my watch history, I think https://kitsu.io/users/DiscoShrew is mostly up to date.

Though not being too old myself, I do gravitate towards older shows. My introduction to anime in general was through the Toonami programming block. Specifically Rurouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho. Naturally, my introduction to manga was Shounen Jump and Shojo Beat. (I'm still waiting for Nana to be finished! More than ten years later...)

I have a love for the earlier Gundam shows though holding that 08th MS Team may be my favorite. I love the beauty found in hand drawn anime, and much prefer it to the CGI stuff of today in most cases, though I'm not totally a luddite.

  • Welcome, please introduce yourself!
  • hear hear! I echo the appreciation for anything hand drawn and with Sels. One of my favorite anime, Legends of the Galactic Heroes - is beautifully rendered. (same with Rose of Versailles and many others of that era, Vampire Hunter D too!). I've been trying to find a production cell from them for ages, either that or Serial Experiments Lain.

Super cool that you could get a job in an industry you love and can appreciate.

Also, is it intentionally spelled aniime, or was that a typo in the forums name? Just curious
