  • I hope you also can get out of the rat race when you feel you had enough. :) For me I just got sick of it at 50.

  • In dollars, about 500.000. So if stocks go up 1%, thats 5000 dollars.

My monthly costs are about half of that. So im thinking it should work out fine. Its a risk of course, but its not a huge risk to take. I think its going to be fine.

  • Like the previous poster said, there is a whole world out there where this sort of thing is very cheap.

In the west, everything is very expensive simply because people have the money to pay that much for it. We are working our entire lives with temporary relief now and then with overpriced alcohol. It sucks.

Im getting off the 9 to 5 myself this year and living on savings and stock market. Cant waste more of my life at work anymore but im 50 now and worked for 25 years. Im expected to continue working until im 70, but fuck that.

  • Most of the content here is from twitter, so yeah...

We may not be using twitter but we are discussing content from twitter.

Its a bit depressing actually. There isnt other websites where things happen that would be more interesting to actually talk about...

  • I think it makes sense. Save all you can, get out of the 9-5 as soon as you can. America in particular has turned insane, and they have a lot of influence on the western world and the global economy unfortunately.

Look out for ourselves, best you can.

We went from 9/11 to covid to batshit crazy in a few decades over there. I dont know why, but something changed at the core. Im not a religious guy but I sometimes wonder.

  • You will bond with the kid later, not now. I think its pretty common for dads to connect much later. You didnt carry the kid so you have no connection yet.

Give it time but also stop doing all unnecessary work. You cant emotionally connect if you are always tired and you associate the kid only with screaming in the background.

  • Honestly its unsafe to go there now. Stay safe people.

  • You are a lot more advanced than "only animals". :) We dont see horses chatting on Facebook.

Sometimes humans excuse very bad behavior by saying animals are doing it, which is very silly to me. You are a human being, not a horse. The only question is, how will you use your abilities that the horse doesnt have? For good or for bad.

Humans competing with eachother is both the source of financial growth and also the destruction of the planet at the same time. If humans cant be smarter, we will get extinct, which is very fair by nature. We have everything we need to be smarter and if our greed over paper money kills us, so be it.

  • I laughed so much i cried when watching Idiocracy. Its just that now, we have Trump acting way worse than the characters in the movie, so Im kind of not laughing anymore at where things are going.

Its some large psy-ops where people are supposed to feel like the world is so insane and there is nothing they can do. But outside of this "social" media, there are a lot of decent, intelligent people still around who doesnt buy into all the bullshit.

Unfortunately a lot of young people will believe this is normal, since they dont know how it was before.

  • I think it also has to do with the economy, not just nazi salutes. Its a bad job market, people dont have money, so luxary cars are not going to be attractive.

Also there is hardly any reason to buy a Tesla... Volvo recharge and others are better cars, made by actual car companies with a good reputation for quality.

  • I have many flaws. But I do actually like who i am. Im honest, and kind. But I dont have high hopes for the future of humanity.

  • Im just being honest. Not sure how many people feel like I do about it. Perhaps just a handful, perhaps millions.

But yeah, im sure its selfish to just not care that much about what happens to humanity.

Im selfish in that way. I accept what happens.

  • I think its alright. If humanity dies out, I think we are simply not intelligent enough to live on. We built systems of capitalism and killed our planet. So be it.

  • You are getting downvoted but i agree with you its obvious they dont really try to hurt the US.

Even the missiles they did fire, ALL of them were intercepted by US missile defence and not a single person was hurt.

Its just to show that they hit back a little symbolically.

  • Its nice to see that hope in your writings, that things will improve once boomers step off. I doubt you will be correct but I like it anyway. Lets hope for that. Cheers.

  • I think its capitalism that is pulling societies from plenty to scarcity, because that is what the system is designed to do. We didnt have ultra capitalism in the west until the last decade or so. You can blame boomers for becoming rich in that system, or you can realize that your generation would not make a difference.

Now we are in the end game of capitalism where billionaries own it all and the world turns into the masses being monitored by technology, while having just enough to pay the bills. Because if they had enough to stop working for the billionaires, they would.

I dont think any of this has to do with boomers specifically or that they were more selfish than others. It was just the time when capitalism were booming. Now its over and your generation is late to the party... Its just natural.

Perhaps on the other side of capitalism, something more fair comes along, or maybe humanity turns into fascism for a while.

  • That comment got deleted by mods. You could probably make your points in a better way. No reason to try and call me things when you can just state your reasons for disagreeing... Its fine to not agree.

  • Have you read history? When you say that 500.000 years passed and you feel those generations cared about the world, but boomers just dont, it sounds like you havent.

You make it sound like everything was just amazing and peaceful and selfless and then boomers just destroyed all of that... :) Read about history and how people treated eachother. America was created in 1776, founded on genocide of the native people. Everyone cared about eachother back then, looking out for eachother?

You can read about hundreds of these historic events around the world. Humanity has a history of taking things from eachother and being cruel. The way your generation looks at boomers as the problem is a bit strange. Its like you just woke up, and you look 20 years back and think you have identified boomers as the problem and now humanity is going to die because of them. Its a bit funny and you would see that yourself if you had my perspective.

  • Im not American so I dont have a 401k, and im not part of New Deal or Great Society style programs... But sure, I understand why you would assume that. It makes sense because of what I wrote.

About perishing because climate change, I dont believe that will happen. Nature is the least of our problems. Our leaders are the problem. Their greed and lust for power, their tendencies to be narcissists or full blown evil monsters. The worst of humanity. At the top of the pyramids of power.

If the US goes into a full depression, its because of its leaders. The rest of us havent done anything. I think you should blame them, and not previous generations of people just like yourself.
