Given the lack of noticeable aliasing in this trailer I wouldn't be surprised if this footage is being run off Switch 2 hardware. Things to my eye look significantly sharper than what we've been getting from the switch.
This looks about comparable to the remaster from earlier, which looked incredible for a Switch game. The trailer looked nice but definitely not what we would expect from something on the level of a PS4. I don't see a reason to doubt that the footage was the game running on Switch.
But the fact that people are debating if this is Switch 2 footage speaks volumes about Retro Studio's skill. Jaw-dropping graphics for a Switch game.
I think too, that this will be a cross-gen game. But the Switch 2 will be released in fall next year, and it will be announced in spring, at least 6 months earlier.
That’s certainly a possibility. I just have this feeling that Nintendo doesn’t have any other games than what they showed us in this direct to fill up a whole extra year. Of course, that’s just a feeling.
And I feel like they may follow the Switch playbook where they show off the console in December - probably during the game awards or (ugh) on Jimmy Fallon like they did last time. Then launch in four to six months with Metroid.
I don't think they'd have announced the weaker version of the game first. The first preview of the game would have been from the best possible version they have to show off, so this trailer is probably exactly that. I think it's unlikely that this will be a dual-release game.
Which makes me worry for the success of the game. Having what should be a cornerstone game for the Switch being released on year 8 of the console's life span is not a good look. I want this to be good; I've been wanting this game ever since I finished Metroid Prime 3 back in 2007, I just hope it's not too late to still find success.
I'm hoping it's gonna be like a GameBoy Color game. One cartridge. Play on Switch, regular graphics. Play on Switch 2, next-gen graphics. Everyone wins
Games and consoles are really expensive in my country and since Switch 2 will probably have 4K (at least from TTYD source code) I'm not sure that I'll be able to buy it.
2 could use a remake, if only to finish polishing the dark world. I'm pretty sure it was just a "copy-paste, delete all the plants, make everything purple, and throw a couple rocks around" job. It deserved better.
I really hope so, as I have never played the original Prime trilogy, and want to play them all before 4. Have been meaning to play Metroid Prime Remake, but without any news of Remake of 2 and 3, or MP 4, wasn't prioritizing it, but going to play the first one soon now.
I've only played the first one, but I'm starting the second one on Game Cube soon! I still have hope they'll release 2 and 3, even if they're not "Remasters", it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't be selling them before Prime 4.
I've been playing MP3 for the first time lately and I'm excited for this next entry! I'm glad to see they have seemingly introduced a new nemesis, as dark Samus was getting a little old IMO
If you look closely, you can actually map the letters mp3 to the first letter in each of the words from the phrase metroid prime 3. This is some advanced cryptography so let me know if that's hard to understand.
I know why you are getting downvoted, but you are right.
The trailer didn't really show anything and it was the same engine they used for the previous remakes so it looks like "more of the same" in a bad way (just because it's the same engine doesn't mean it has to look exactly the same).
I hope the next trailer looks better and the gameplay to be a fun experience because this game will have people overhypping themselves so much that nothing will reach what they wish for.
It's not what the trailer shows, it's how it's showing it. It's just a slide show of things happening. Fade transitions. Awkward cuts between shots. Almost nothing in sync with the music. The release date is stitched to the end as another clip. The villain's theme just starts playing while the music is still going. Shows the date and location in the beginning as if it's going to be story related, then just shows gameplay until the end..
Very little metroidvania in it so I think it's a bad Metroid game but it's still a great game. Legitimately one of the DS must haves. And it had some killer online multiplayer!
I kind of hate seeing things like this because I know I don't have the attention span to justify buying a switch I really wish they could just do a computer storefront already heck an official nintendo steam deck would probably sell like the wii
I bought a ps4 and waited in line for the midnight release and it gathered dust super fast I think I got 100 hours on it before I just moved back to pc only out of habit, I was having fun and enjoyed the games I had so it makes me worry that I'd do the dane with a switch
Lemmy was up in arms at Nintendo with their stance on emulator legal crackdown. I saw many "never again" comments. Now a new thing from a beloved franchise comes out and the tone is "gimmeeee"
