I want to apologize if I offended any PoC, I didn’t read the greentext correctly and “basketball American” slipped through. I’ve tried to keep my posts as clean as possible and will continue to do so. It’s entirely my mistake and I’m sorry.
Imagine being upset that your 4chan greentext forum has racism in the post. You can't eat your cake and have it, too. That just comes with the territory
My guy, even I’m not going to defend it. I thought it meant something different as so much of the greentext seemed absurd for the sake of absurdity. I’ve posted several greentexts without racism or sexism, so it’s far from impossible. Just because something is ubiquitous doesn’t make it okay. Now I’m stuck deciding between deleting the post or keeping it up with an apology to acknowledge my mistake.
Here I was assuming from that line that this was not in the united states so it was notable that the man was american and also that be was wearing a basketball outfit. Then i thought it was weird they were talking about carrying given that it wasn't the US and then I just forgot the basketball thing
Maybe he took the gun back when he got out. In that case it might have just been him wanting the cab driver to have a gun to protect them, and not wanting to be prosecuted for being drunk and shooting if something were to happen.
Came here to say something similar. We are so afraid of strangers but most people are good at heart and just want to get along. Even if you’re an asshole as long as you aren’t committing crimes and killing people, you could argue they are at least a neutral person.
I think the internet likes to hyper focus on the worst parts of our society and it gives a false impression that everyone is evil and out to get you.
The slope is slippery. I don’t want to make work for the mods when people feel right in taking the next step. I like the politically correct greentexts posted here.
The moral of the story is not to let oneself be blinded by one's prejudices. Most people are good, and you have nothing to fear from them. Most people look out for each other to some extent. That is the moral of the story, OP.
Lemmy is incredibly PC, even more so than much of Reddit. For instance, it prevents you from posting the n word in any form- it’s filtered and removed automatically.
