This would still be true if the UN didn't recognise Latvia, but to say UN recognition doesn't matter is silly.

Just to make things clear here, nowhere did I say that he's right or that UN recognition doesn't matter, or any of the sorts. I'm making fun of how community notes is perfect for hypocritical smug libs who pretend to care about UN recognition all of a sudden, when I've seen many of them shitting on the UN not too long ago for not towing the hardcore Zionist line. I probably should've included that in my comment.

There's been a growing trend in media to question the legitimacy of some of the former soviet republics - usually Ukraine and the baltics. Haven't heard this language used on the likes of Kazakhstan though. Of course the same media never raises the question of legitimacy of the current Russian Federation, which is also very much not USSR.

It's been going on in baltics for a while. I wanted to say after their approval into NATO, but apparently it's been happening even before, just less obvious. Here's a wiki link, since I'm too lazy to find better sources.
