I'm kind of surprised RED is still small enough and Nikon is still big enough for this to happen. In my mind I expected them to have a thousand+employees
Tbh I'd never heard of RED until they came out with their phone which didn't actually have any of their camera tech.

Red make film cameras, designed more for say large scale YouTube or small scale TV operations. Not really a consumer level tech.
Only reason I know of them is because of tech YouTubers making videos about it. I think namely Linus and mkbhd.
I didn't even realize that was supposed to be the same RED until your comment. The phone is actually pretty great for the price.
The process of buying a sensor for a phone then developing computational photography is different from making a digital cinema cam. I wasn't :o that the cam in the Red phone wasn't as 👍 as an iPhone's cam.
