Electrek: SAE's NACS certification is ready, and it’ll fix every EV charging problem at once

electrek.co SAE's NACS certification is ready, and it’ll fix every EV charging problem at once

SAE has finalized its NACS certification effort, and the new standard promises to fix a *lot* of the current issues with EV charging.

Great news everyone!

[Electrek] had another chat with Rodney McGee, Ph.D., of the University of Delaware, who chaired SAE’s NACS task force, and told us that the new standard will be announced on Tuesday.

  • I’m ridiculously excited for the provision about street lamp charging. This is something that may be able to take advantage of a lot of existing power lines and keep charging infrastructure tucked away.

Plus the "bring your cable with you" that Europe has had. Probably won't stop all vandalism, but it's probably cheaper for charger operators to not have to maintain cables + their equipment, vs just their equipment+a female connector.
