Meta: Can we talk about non "Apple Enthusiasts" dominating the threads on c/apple_enthusiasts?
  • Sure, I did make a couple comments between today and yesterday, including this one, so I'm not sure where the "gotcha" is here.

I signed in yesterday to check how a deletion script of mine would work and decided to scroll around. Yesterday I saw a social security thread that was some news I didn't come across yet, and today I saw this thread in my list of active threads as I tabbed back and it piqued my interest.

If you're curious about my future activity:

    • In a day or two I'll be making an announcement post in an announcements community saying I have a tool to help purge user posts
    • In about a week-10 days I'll make a final "hey! this instance is shutting down real soon!"
  • Meta: Can we talk about non "Apple Enthusiasts" dominating the threads on c/apple_enthusiasts?
  • To add on,

Go look at some of the downvoters (link me any thread, I'll pull the list of votes since I'm an instance admin). Some of the folks doing some of the downvoting spend an enormous amount of time on Lemmy.

It's probably why Lemmy's activity has been dying off except for the hyper-active power-users.

  • Meta: Can we talk about non "Apple Enthusiasts" dominating the threads on c/apple_enthusiasts?
  • This is an endemic problem on Lemmy and is part of why I'm mostly done with it (I'm just lurking around right now to keep an eye on my instance I'm decommissioning).

There's no point in trying to build a community with a very hostile environment for anything that doesn't align with the very odd hostile-against-everything-not-OSS zeitgeist.

Take a look at !tesla@lemmy.world. The folks downvoting don't even own EVs and just spam bad takes on News and Politics communities.

Ironically Reddit is a healthier place.

  • The House GOP just gave Biden’s campaign a huge gift: Roughly 80 percent of House Republicans just lined up behind a plan to cut Social Security and ban all abortions
  • Have fun being mad at the world. It isn't good for your blood pressure.

If you haven't made an effort to get ahead of the potential nonsense around social security with 40-50 years of notice, that's on you. The Republicans have made it no secret they've been wanting to tear it down, especially through the 90s.

  • The House GOP just gave Biden’s campaign a huge gift: Roughly 80 percent of House Republicans just lined up behind a plan to cut Social Security and ban all abortions
  • I’m not a fan of raising it but you’re just incorrect and ought to look into how this works.

You can start pulling benefits out at 62 but you can collect more per month the longer you wait.

There is nothing stopping you from deciding at age 62 to start collecting if you’re fine with the lower amount.

Next, the amount provided is never promised. You pay into Social Security for current benefit recipients and Social Security gives you an estimated amount of benefits you may see. This is called out many times, and I implore you to utilize the information on its site effectively.

    Here’s the disclaimer:

We can't provide your actual benefit amount until you apply for benefits. And that amount may differ from the retirement estimates because:  …

    • Your estimated benefits are based on current law. The law governing benefits amounts may change. Congress has made changes to the law in the past and can do so at any time.
  • Senior doctors in South Korea submit resignations, deepening dispute over medical school plan
  • Or there’s your take.

Life after high school is going to open your mind up.

  • Desperate TikTok lobbying effort backfires on Capitol Hill
  • Edit: I’m an idiot and can’t read: I thought this was referring to backfiring on the reps, not TikTok. Original comment remains below:

The BBC should settle down lol, it didn’t backfire. Some group of aides took 900 calls, probably tallied it up on a few sticky notes, and passed them to a rep who tossed it in a bin.

  • Tesla working on NACS extension cable
  • To also add: in a call with the WSJ, Farley suggested that Ford may be switching the charge port location because they want to go full-in on interoperability with Tesla Supercharging stations.

  • Tesla working on NACS extension cable

    > Most Supercharger cables at NACS Supercharger sites should be able to reach your EV charge port, however, in some cases you might have to park over the line in order to charge comfortably. Avoid parking diagonally to reach the cable and try to obstruct as few charge posts as possible. Charge port locations vary by EV model, which requires cable sharing between adjacent stalls at many sites. Tesla is rapidly deploying our latest V4 Supercharger post which reaches all EVs in the same Supercharger stall. Additionally, we encourage all vehicle manufacturers to standardize charge port locations to the rear driver side or front passenger side. > > We are working on an NACS to NACS extension cable, which will be available for purchase in the future.

  • Preventing corporations is one piece of the puzzle, the next is finding a way to not incentivize people using their owner-occupied houses as the retirement investment vehicle.

We won’t be able to build more houses if people keep justifying their votes for bad planning over this fear their house value will drop to zero.

  • State of the Union Megapost!
  • I genuinely am curious where you're living that everyone's having a hard time putting a roof over their head. The stats simply don’t match this narrative in the overwhelming majority of areas in the US.

This outrageous hyperbole that you repeat day-in and day-out is just unproductive and, quite frankly, insulting to anyone wanting meaningful political discussion here.

Commenting the same things over and over on a political forum isn't going to change anything.

  • State of the Union Megapost!
  • This intentionally ignores real-world context.

  • State of the Union Megapost!
  • This article is from 2022. It's practically ancient in terms of very-short-term economic analysis.

I highly encourage you to look at more recent data.

  • State of the Union Megapost!
  • Anyone else watching CSPAN just for the unhinged call-in comments?

  • State of the Union Megapost!
  • Considering the literal hundreds of other poorly reasoned comments you make on here…

Biden was never a progressive president. He wasn’t running on anything close to a progressive platform. I’m not sure why in this, or literally a hundred of your other comments here that get responded to by others, is still a surprise.

  • State of the Union Megapost!
  • I disagree with the logic of complaining about inflation then suggesting all of the money should’ve been distributed to individuals.

This is more of an emotional argument than logical…

  • Is it only news if it invokes strictly trite and sorrowful commentary?

‘A slap in the face’: Va. House GOP forced to reject own member’s anti-abortion bill
wtop.com ‘A slap in the face’: Va. House GOP forced to reject own member’s anti-abortion bill - WTOP News

Democrats in the Virginia House of Delegates forced their Republican colleagues to take an up-or-down vote Monday on a sweeping anti-abortion bill one lawmaker called “a slap in the face” to women who have been raped or suffer life-threatening complications from a pregnancy.

‘A slap in the face’: Va. House GOP forced to reject own member’s anti-abortion bill - WTOP News

So for those not following VA politics, I'll do up a bit of a TL;DR:

    Pre-Nov-2023:

    • Governor: Republican
    • Legislature: 1 house was Dem, 1 house was Republican
    • Abortion was used to try to drum up support to make both legislative houses Republican in the Nov 2023 elections (among other things)

    Nov 2023 elections happen.

    • Plan backfires. Dems get both legislative houses, but Gov seat is still Republican.

New Legislative session starts for 2024.

    • Republican filed a bill to remove funding for abortions
    • Dems were like "lol no", wanted to bring a floor vote on the bill to get votes recorded on where everyone stands on it
    • Republicans tried to revoke and water down bill, Dems were like "lol no"
    • Dems forced the bill to floor vote
    • Almost every single Republican decided to vote "no" on bill, so it failed by 97 votes (out of 100).

    > Total: 955,509 (up 58%) and 7.4% market share (vs. 5.6% a year ago)

Or roughly, BEVs were 1 in ~18 of new registrations last year and are now closer to 1 in ~13.
