Everyone forgets that Biden was the white bone to throw to aggrieved white dems who had to vote for Obama out of party loyalty or fear of Sarah Palin succeeding the aged and frail McCain. It was like "yeah we got this new fancy-shmancy Chicago Lawyer with his Radical Black Pastor and he hasn't even been in the Senate that long but... we paired him up with Joe 'I direly questioned Anita Hill' Biden.
Joe 'I was friends with Strom Thurmand' Biden.
Joe 'I've been here forever so I wont rock the boat' Biden."
The very idea that you can work with Republicans is a dead thing now but it was 'alive' back then and a lot of it involved behaving like it was a Good Old Boys club and letting "bygones be bygones" which is a way for rich white people to pretend that the aggrieved masses don't exist because a white democrat who votes vaguely in support of minority rights can split a club sandwich and fries with a republican that thinks phrenology should come back.
The part that none of these motherfuckers will ever admit is that things have been on a decline for decades at this point. I have beaten this dead horse here before but TIME IS FUCKING LINEAR. Maybe it's not actually so but I sure as shit don't think our brains or technology are capable of grasping it in any other way. The past creates the present and the present creates the future. If your "good old days" led to the current bad days you need to examine the impact those 'good old days' had. In fact it is your duty to interrogate specifically how this came to pass and to judge harshly the things that enabled the present state of things.
The fact that they chose Biden to carry the torch as some kind of Obama legacy pick when Biden was chosen to be the very thing to assuage the White Voter will forever astound me. How else can you read that except as some kind of doubling down or circling back to the very problem that nominating a minority was supposed to address? I genuinely want to know how they squared that circle. The Hillary nomination made more sense because it at least played upon a narrative of a continuum her token bullshit she was anchored to. "Okay minority man first, then white woman, maybe next time minority woman!" It was gross to see the cynical way they played their cards and I'll forever be grateful it blew up in Hillary's stupid warmongering imperialist face. She wanted to be part of the Boy's Club like Thatcher was but she forgot the abhorrent sexism involved. Too late to neoliberally chair a chain of interventionist wars, too early to explore a future where women are respected in politics. Born right in time to be bested by a sexist racist r*pist gameshow host.

I hope all the lunches were worth it.
