New Lemmy version released, Please give updates on upgrade for this instance.
As many of you already know Lemmy has a new version. V 0.18.3 This brings quite a few features, notably :
reducing database size by around 80%
new logic for determining comment default language (no, this doesn’t remove ‘undetermined’ as the default language but does mention it may be a possibility in the future.)
infinite scroll user option (opt-in not enabled by default thankfully.)
Full changelog here.
First of all, thanks to the admins for keeping the server up and allowing us to have the awesome experience. Secondly, it would be great to have some updates on when we are upgrading, thanks. @TheDude@sh.itjust.works
Hey all, I’m always excited to upgrade to the latest versions that become available. Unless the upgrade is related to security I will tend to wait a few days to give other instances a chance to share their experiences. Before upgrading I usually go over the issues that have been submitted to help understand the risks and solutions to mitigate them.
That being said the new version does bring in a whole bunch of performance gains (mostly related to the database) that i’m looking forward to.
Lemmy.world is due to upgrade later today and I plan on upgrading shortly after them (either Monday or Tuesday).
I will put up a notification up prior to the upgrade.
Holding off from updating is probably advisable at this point, at least until the effects of blanket sanitization on input are better understood. Three issues [1]|[2]|[3] have been already discovered, and there is probably more to come, as the change doesn't appear to have been well thought out.
Best way to avoid such issue is to move to a small instance. I moved to aussie.zone and never been happier.
Its fast and responsive. Feels so much snappier when commenting and posting.
Try it, you won't regret it.
Well, at the moment, sh.itjust.works is down for me several times a day too... It happens more and more often :-(
This is particularly worrying when I validate a post or message that took me a long time to compose. It is now so, that I have to type and save what I compose inside a text editor first. I do it for posts, but if I have to do it for comments too, that will be too much inconvenience.
I was running dev for the week and a half on, no.lastname.nz, before 0.18.3-rc.x came out. I can't say I've had any real issues on 0.18.3, except the nested comments bug.
for some reason i am unable to find the infinite scroll user option, does anyone else see that?
Please ignore my negative initial vote score, as I have the privilege of being bot-downvoted by CCP sympathizers because of comments on this post https://lemmy.world/post/2338419, there is also the possibility that I’m just an asshole.
