It's too late for the Burgerreichers, they are successfully programmed to think it is a badge of honor and respect. We've really failed since Vietnam.
I had to break up with the last person I was dating because she wanted to join the military and I couldn't convince her otherwise. She really thought this was some brave, meaningful thing to do with her life. And she was a woc goth from out of the country. It's like some NCIS sitcom shit. Marvel poisoned, honestly.

Sadly it's the only real form of socialism in the US. That's how they lure the kids in. Housing, clothing, healthcare, education, food. All taken care of. Fucking tragic really. With the utter lack of class consciousness and the propagandized world views that exist in the country it's easy to sign up and feel comfortable and justified for a full 20 year career. Then they can go around and say they were in such and such branch and 99% of the time hear "Thank you for your service." in reply. It's like some nationalistic necromantic incantation.

And they'll be the loudest voices complaining about socialism and free handouts while using every single VA benefit and program that exists, I know these people.
