  • Oh joy corproate towns are back. Surely the employees won't be paid only in

Xbucks and Xlodging and Xstores where they only accept Xbucks.

Country never had horrible problems with that in the past.

  • I can imagibe muskrat whining Disney gets a city, I want a city!

    • Celebration, FL is the public facing front. the real crazy story is the history of the Reedy Creek Improvement District.

The Reedy Creek Improvement District managed by the Disney Company had the authority of a governmental body, but was not subject to the constraints of a governmental body.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Florida_Tourism_Oversight_District and the history section tells much of the story, but does not talk about the stories of the very zealous (even by Florida standards) police department and the various incidents where it's actions resulted in the deaths of alleged thieves. nor does it talk about how, being a municipality, allowed Disney to access public bond funds for investment capital at sub-market interest rates.

the company town phenomenon never left the US. It has been running absolutely wild in Florida for a hundred years.
