  • I had mentally allowed myself two days for looking at cars. As it only took a couple of hours I now have a lot of unexpectedly open time to fill. I might do an op shop run and try to finish off my couch.

Does anyone else write off stupidly large amounts of time to do things that are not actually that time consuming? I seem to do it all the time, which often means I put off things because I "don't have enough time" and then when I do get them done end up with lots of extra free time.

    • I’m the opposite. I put things off, especially unpleasant tasks, but severely overestimate what I can get done in a timeframe. (I don’t really believe it, I just like to convince myself I will do it later to feel less guilty about procrastinating). Then mad panic ensues. I need to find a way of doing unpleasant tasks.

But more importantly, congratulations on the car! And yay for having spare time to do other fun stuff!

      • I only tend to do that for uni assignments - sure I can write up 5000 words after work on the day it's due!!

I pick up the car on Thursday. I'm going to add clearing out the small shed I have at the end of the carport and putting it onto Marketplace, I'll have an extra 13cm of car to fit in and need that space back so the new vehicle doesn't have her butt hanging out 🤣

    • Drive to the op shop to familliarise yourself with the car some more? Do you have it have it already?

      • It's coming on Thursday. It will actually make it a lot easier to do op shop drop offs now, tons of room and much easier access! But I've got a few boxes of things I'm tripping over that I'd just like out of the way so I'll do it today anyway.

First visit with the new car is going to be the auto electrician to organise a reversing camera - it has sensors, but the visibility at the back is not great and I'd much prefer to add a camera in. Fingers crossed they can install without replacing the head unit, but it depends on which specific unit was installed in the car and they won't know until they can look at it. I am a bit nervous about manouvering in it, after 19 years in the one car the change is going to be hard.

    • I've never thought about it.

  • Morning! Does the new bot pick the emoji in any meaningful way?

    • Broinglorid made it, probably so their lemmy feed wasn't filled with constant notifications of

"Right sock, left sock, left shoe, right shoe."

Which is the highfalutin content we're here for.

  • Ah autumn. Flanno - too cold. Oodie - too hot. Now snuggled into old fav hoodie. Just right. Plus fingerless gloves (years driving a keyboard == sore joints on a cold morning)

  • I set up my rainbow of glass 🙂 It took me a long time to collect, each is a real colour glass, not painted glass. There's some celadon and nason in there

    • I've got similar in sunglasses.

    • Really beautiful pieces! Do you have a particular story you love about any of them?

      • the grey puppy dog is a piece of Nason I bought while I was living in Brussels

cost me 300 franc ( at 27 franc to the AUD )

ugh, I have to stop thinking of price, my husband is always at me about money I feel I have to justify everything

  • Holiday time 😺 Have acquired paint sample pot. Have also been told I look like Madam Mim. Some may be offended at being called a fat, purple, witch. Not me.

  • Stopped in at NQR while I was out. I am about to find out whether cheese and bacon filled potato cakes are a good idea of a travesty that should never have been allowed to exist.

  • Blaaaaaaaah. Bolted awake at 4:30am for no reason, cursed the universe, eventually went back to sleep but had a conga line of very vivid and humiliating work-related dreams. Then bolted awake again at 7:20am in the middle of a particularly anxiety-inducing sequence. Ugh. I've folded my anxiety around uni into work and it's pretty shitty but w/e. Have accepted there will be lots of Yucky Feelings over the next two months but i just need to try and do my best with it and shit out something at the end, accept the criticism and move on.

    • Sometimes when I wake up in the middle of a anxiety dream I grab a soft blanket and wrap it around me and lie on the floor with my legs up on the bed. And I lie there and breathe. It lets your back really flatten out and stretch and helps me feel attached to the ground. Sometimes I literally also touch the bark of one of the gum trees on the way to the train station after a particularly bad night. YMMV so just putting it out there. Anxiety dreams SUCK especially when you wake up in the middle before your brain has finished filing whatever it is its trying to file. Go gently today.

  • Finally made it down the coast. Bus replacement from wyndham vale to geelong made it a lengthy trip. Bit chaotic, no one seemed to know which bus was going where (including the drivers lol).

But it's always interesting taking that bus through those newish estates out west to see how they're going. People have planted things, but not things that provide any shade. The amount of synthetic lawn is pretty crazy. Just a massive heatsink. Also the walking tracks are always empty which is a shame as they look quite nice.

Before leaving decided to borrow both Situationcake's and Dumblederps ideas. Hoping the steel wool works, but if it gets through...

Behold, the ROTATING BOTTLE ON A STICK OVER A BUCKET 2000™ (that is pb not poo).

    Let's see how we go.

  • Shameless thought following GoonSea. I have these shot/aperitif glasses I'm trying to fill a set of. On the assumption there should be 6, a green ought exist? Not sure the other. Anyone spots them I'd love a heads up 😺

  • I worked such long days this week that I didn't even need to take any leave last week despite not working 2 out of 3 days 🙃 that's good though, gotta bank up that leave for upcoming uni stressout sessions.

More Project Hail Mary tonight. Only about 15% of the way in but this is a v entertaining read!

  • Wow okay, so I've been watching yt (just trash stuff), and the political campaign ads for the election have started cropping up.

There's one that I always skip, that feels like utter fear mongering - it seems to just focus on how awful the greens are, talking about inheritance tax and migration and alleged sexual abuse survivors talking about their time in the greens party (alleged of course, because I haven't seen much news about sex abuse in the greens party, just the liberal party lol). But because I always skipped it, I didn't know who was sponsoring it... It's Advance Australia party 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Of course they don't talk about their OWN policies, of course it's all about how "terrible" and "scary" the greens are 🙄🙄

I rolled my eyes so hard I've sent them into orbit. At least the ads for the greens and for labor talk about THEIR OWN policies. Of course a racist bullshit party can only drag other parties through the mud and never have the courage to lay out their own agendas.

    Fuck I hate the right.
