Fun fact: Victorinox has been operating since 1884 and has never had to lay off an employee.
To avoid this they set aside profits during boom periods to supplement recessionary periods
What a novel idea.
Ah yes, the obscure tactic of having savings set aside for rainy days, you know, the thing they tell all us normal people to do, and which we get blamed for not doing in case of hardships and told to pull ourselves by our bootstraps... Novel indeed...
If you're just looking for a compact Victorinox pocket knife with the most essential tools I recommend the Rambler over their basic one. It's 6€ more but the tools are more useful for everyday carry imo. If you're looking for a multitool that folds into pliers then any of these are a solid choice. And if you want a big ass pocket knife with lots of tools but nothing unnecessary apart from that damn corkscrew then the Cyber Tool L is a dream come true. You can even use "Cyber Tool L" as a reply to Elon Musk's tweets.
For people wearing glasses, I'd recommend a model with corkscrew, as it comes with a tiny screwdriver.
Only some do out the box but they can be bought separately
Thank you!
I'd love to, but I'd struggle with this one a bit to be honest. These are "last for years and years type tools".
I use a Leatherman Wave, pretty much every day, at work and at home. I'd struggle to replace it unless something had exactly the same tool set. Also, because of it's durability, I imagine by the time it comes to replace it, either America will have recovered, or America will be in such a state that you can't buy things from there anyway :)
But yeah, if I was getting a secondary one for some reason, or it got nicked, I'd have a look at these again.
They have tools that look like the Leatherman tools. Like this one. I have no idea how they compare, though.
Yeah, I had a good look through the website - the linked one is almost everything I use, though the screwdrivers are set, rather than with changeable ends, and there's no tiny screwdriver.
This one: Swiss Tool X Plus Ratchet could probably cover what I need, though the screwdrivers bit is a separate item in the same pouch.
To be fair, if I did have to change what I was using, I'd learn to cope, and just carry a few extra bits around with me.
I suppose the appeal of the exact Leatherman model I have, is that I use every piece of it, and there's nothing extra on it (for my needs).
My swiss army knife's mechanism has been completely seized up for years now. I hate that there is no obvious way to take it apart for cleaning.
Soak it in vinegar then rinse with soapy water. Dry well afterwards
Soak it in soapy water. Use an ultrasonic cleaner, if you have one. Dry it and apply machine oil to the joints. Should be an easy job.
If you need to borrow an ultrasonic cleaner any optician worth their salt should be happy to help you out.
I have a set of Victorinox knives and I flipping LOVE them. They are amazing, and worth the price
I'm from the Netherlands but traveled to Swiss on interrail a few years back and we went to this little village called Brunnen. They have a Victorinox Visitor Center where you can assemble your own Victorinox knife. You can even engrave it. It was an awesome experience, and you'll have a unique multi tool afterwards.
😂
I just checked and found out my Gerber tool is not made in Germany... 😠
Maybe the fact that Gerber is owned by Fiskars, a Finnish company, will make you feel a little better 🌞
I bought some leatherman multitool 10 years ago. It was purposed as a EDC complementary tool while I was a volunteer fireman. I used it once to cut a small wire and it cracked.
So... That's it.
Also, think about Opinel and Mora for cheap cool knives.
Picked up a Leatherman Arc a year ago and had been an absolute game changer for me. One of the few multi tools that can be rearranged for better left handed operation. Besides the price point I can’t say enough good things.
