HE GOT THE JOB! MY PARTNER GOT THE JOB!
FUCK YESSSSSSSSS AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Congrats to them! 🎉
Seagoon has moved house. UMG has become a grandparent. I'm cooking chicken. Wins all around today! 🎉
Yayyy! Congrats!
Woot and assorted other silly noises!
Congrats!!!
Woohoo!!🎉🎉
YESSSSSSSSS
Yay!!🥳
yay
that is awesome
Congrats!!!!!!!
It's gonna be a big weekend. My Corolla struggled a little bit going up the hill.
This is the perfect weather to make health and fitness changes if you need to. Also getting rid of clutter. C'mon guys. You've got this!
I have this!!
You have!!
Just dropped off at the opshop and have a hard rubbish booked for the 7th. I also bought a desk chair. A touch more than I wanted to spend, but getting a purchase out of the way has its own value.
I know I keep saying tinyest's language is exploding. but hes now repeating almost all words said to him (or trying to anyway). He can now say "if you say so" and uses 2 words together pretty frequently. Sadly its "daddy, no" a lot of the time. But hes also become a lot less stingy with his hugs. And you best be prepared cause sometimes they are surprise hugs.
Once kids start talking, it's great!!! You're in for a good time.
A warning, kids have no filter. They say exactly what they see.
him being able to communicate needs (or wants) makes life so much easier!
aw, that is so cute and awesome
and wow, I just love humans, we are really incredible. Language is what makes us. 😊 ( i must be super tired, i'm teary thinking how wonderful tinyest is )
yeah even his little "MINE!" is cute.
One of my boys is a real talker. He's at the same stage saying things like "this is mine", "See you later", and "see you tomorrow". My girlfriend asked him what I do at work and he said "Helping old people" because that's what she says to him when I go do my tech support sessions.
I've just done psychometric testing for the first time, for a potential job. This seems like a really dumb way to select candidates.
It is. You should check your gut for other weirdnesses.
My dad has worked for his company for about 15 years. They implemented psychometric testing about 10 years ago. If he had to do the psychometric testing, I'm not sure they would've hired him. He's very good at his job, but is pretty much the laughing stock of the office.
If it’s a Myers-Briggs type test, It’s been debunked as not much better than horoscopes. Vague traits that might seem adaptable to almost anyone, and no correlation to job suitability. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers%E2%80%93Briggs_Type_Indicator
Oh man. What a long fucking sleep.
Day is almost over. Chilling in bed it is then lol
sky pretty
I'm pretty beat. So many stairs .
Another early night I think.
Sorry I haven't been here as much as I would like. Love you all. Special hugs to Spud's partner, to Tinyest for talking and to Melbs for being a great cat mum and community gardener. 😘😘😘
Seconded. Rest up seagoon. The water awaits
🐈❤️
Ted is such a champ. Here he is enjoying the balcony. 🙂
And I found Bill after much searching , grabbed him, put him in bathroom with food water and a tray. He is better n. He must have felt so uncomfortable, poor little guy.
Bill and ted's (and yours) excellent adventure :)
Poor bill, he'll get the hang of it I'm sure.
Thank you 🙂 Bill's getting better by the hour
but i have to be careful or anytime over the next two months as he could still do a runner. He gets scared and with no thought just runs
I see part of the ol Mic's cistine chapel in there.
lol, his little paw reaching out
Replacing the pita bread kilojoules with iceberg and olive oil for lunch. Turning a salad wrap into a salad. Went okay.
I love doing that. Washing the lettuce leaves not so much. Cos lettuce works well too.
Did a first aid course today. It was way more interesting then I expected (I am scarred by some terrible OH&S seminars). Also a bit confronting. And there's an app you can sign up to and opt-in to be notified if someone nearby is having a cardiac arrest. So you can hightail it there and help while the ambulance comes. On the one hand I'd love to do that but it also terrifies me
I was working at this joint and I had to study for my first aid renewal. The Minister came in with his grand kids to have a chat. This little boy about 4, grabbed the handle of the iron and went to pull it off the ironing board towards himself. Fuck me. I took the biggest step and managed to grab it in time. When they left someone said "You nearly had to use your first aid then. That was a real life scenario".
I am a grandparent to a Bluetooth baby now.
Eeeeeeee! Yuck spoiler that nastiness please 😝
Uncanny valley.
One of the pumpkins has aphids really severely and it’s starting to spread to the others…
I’ve sprayed soapy water and physically wiped as many as I could off but am a bit worried. Especially as ants are farming them.
Fast, reliable and relatively cheap ethical solution that I've used many many times before: bugs for bugs.
It is funny when you see some of your money literally flying away though, but in the grand scheme of things it's good for the environment.
Low, you sound like a teacher already - yep its a frustrating job, and that is a super sucky placement. But you care about those kids. Which is really important. And there are other schools out there. Yep, the education system sucks. So does the health system. So do most of the systems (yay, late stage capitalism). But people care, and if you can find a group of them that do it's awesome. There are schools with better cultures.
This also reminded me - I learned how to write essays in year 10. Not because it was on the curriculum, but I happened to have one ace english teacher and she taught us the principles one day. Decades later I am still grateful for that teacher, and use that info still, and my science/maths teacher who pushed me into trying when I wanted to just fail.
Edit: posted then worried that sounded lecturey - was trying to be empathetic and share in response....
Cheers! Not lecturey at all :)
I'm glad to hear you had a good teacher to guide you with essay writing!
I was a bit shocked recently when I found out a friends 12 year old could barely read, and that according the school and the parents the kid is educationally doing just fine. I mean what!? That’s nowhere near fine. How is this good for anyone? The kid has no learning difficulties according to the parents. They are getting him a tutor now. He seems to be of average brightness, so having good reading at 12 should be no problem. Everyone has let the kid down. School and parents both.
Yep, I feel like a lot of kids will slip through the cracks and they'll get to upper primary when someone recognises that they can't read :(
Dumbest thing I've done in a bit today.
I went to grab a snack from the lunchroom and ended up with a little biscuit and tried to eat it.
The texture strange and didn't break up like I thought so I chucked it in the bin.
Couple of hours later I look again at the box of snacks and see in light pen on the lid "Not Edible".
It now dawns on me that I tried to eat a biscuit made out of plasticine.
I was tired this morning :(
Maybe the real dummy is the one storing plasticine biscuits in the lunchroom though? Just why??
Three days into a hardcore diet change and while I know it's what I needed to do to break some bad habits... ouchhhhh... just a hurdle to get over though!
your still setting the routine. It gets easier when you start to feel better from it and the habit sets in.
I'm just tired and don't feel up to the drama of potential scammers. I'm just gonna buy from reliable big stores now or buy on sight.
oh, and I did some image searches, the items I were interested on ebay were not described correctly, they were great items but described ikea etc 😠
Food market was bountiful today. I've got a rolled chicken roast for dinner, and a bag of brussels sprouts to go with it. A random cheese turned out to be cheddar flavoured with salt and vinegar, so I'll have to be a bit judicious in how I use that. I also have tons of fruit of all varieties.
Is there a lemmy suggestions box? I like to be able to hide users without blocking them and I'd like to be able to disable comment replys. God dam making some comments out of the instance and I get a bunch of updates from aggressive nerds that I really don't care for. I tended to disable comments on reddit as soon as I'd commented due to notification avoidance.
once i got to sleep i slept like a log and for a long time
Bill is not coping well, I think I will have to keep him in a bathroom for a little while until he calms down, has something to eat and drink and pees in a tray
also, it's my observation lazy people make more work in the long run
aldis got a camping sale coming up. If any of you were thinking "man, I'd love to try camping but dont have the gear" this is a pretty good entry point. Kmart is even cheaper (but you get what you pay for there).
ooh thank you! I need to build up my own gear now I'm not with my ex (who was a long time camper and generally stocked up)
Steven Wilson released a new album recently and I'm digging it. His last few albums had more of an attempted pop spin on them whereas this one is two songs that go for around 20 minutes each. I don't think we'll get another Hand. Cannot. Erase. but it's good to see a turn in that direction again.
I will be examining this today thank you.
So I have a choice to make about this friday that I need to make today to ask for leave.
Friday's are usually a light work day 9 out 10 times.
Should I take it off this week or stick it out and just spend the day at work?
If you really need a break, take the day off. If you have shit to do, take the day off. If you haven't had a day off for a while, take the day off.
Otherwise go in and plan your next day off.
I reckon you need the day off.
Overthebackfence has some entertaining lemon printed knickers
Over my back fence there's cats fighting/rooting.
Does anyone use something other than Spotify? Looking for a new steaming app.
Yes sir! Qobuz. Its all CD quality or better, and it more like a magazine with articles, rather than a brute-force algorithmic sleuce.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I've heard Pandora is good, but I haven't tried it myself.
I like Radio Garden as well - sometimes I tune into radio stations in Germany, to get my language fix/make sure I can still understand lol. Can tune into radio stations from across the globe
I'll give them a go.
Spotify is cool with AI music on their platform so they can get utterly fucked.
I don't want to go to bed but I'm tired. Maybe a nanna nap will work.
Edit: Too risky. May as well go to bed.
Goodnight all ❤️
Favourite dog treat recipes please. Biscuit type.
500g lean mince (lamb or chicken works well-beef/pork can be a bit too fatty and go rancid), 300g rolled oats or oatmeal, 1 375g jar peanut butter, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon kelp powder (optional). Mix well, and chill in the fridge for 1 hour. Dough will become quite squishy then firm up as it chills. If its too squishy after chilling, mix in more oats. Form into thumblike logs or roll out to 1/2 cm thick and cut bikkie shapes of your choice. Gingerbread men work well, but any shape that's not too pointy will do. I used to make deep indents to make it easier to break into pieces. Bake at about 150 degrees C on a parchment lined tray for about 1 hour until thoroughly dried out and crunchy. Might take longer depending on how mushy the mince is, and logs take a bit longer. Logs should snap when bent not go bendy. Store in an airtight tin out of the fridge for up to 2 weeks if kept dry and cool. This mixture makes a couple of dozen bikkies or a dozen or so logs. Can be re-baked in a low oven if they go limp with storage.
I can't cook an upvote. Doggo needs biscuits since his human declines other recompense.
I have mowed the "lawn" and even got fancy and trimmed the edges. Now my arms are all shaky.
Its that damn fine motor control again - I have this problem too when using the whippersnapper to edge around the trees etc.
My mum and I were going to get something from the local chicken shop for dinner, but then I saw I had a $20 off Uber Eats for first time use. So we got a whole charcoal chicken for $5. A steal.
I just went outside and someone was smoking a big fat smelly joint.
I miss it; made me realise why my sleep is fucked up - I haven't had medical in months now. Always tired and unrested.
I hate how expensive it is. Fuck I need a job so I can sleep again.
Uhh, you sure it's not the six hour nap? More exercise will help your sleep too. It usually only takes me a week to shake the no pot insomnia.
Haha yes the 6 hour nap had a lot to do with it! I mean just my sleep rhythm in general. I use medical for cptsd symptoms, mainly night-terrors and subsequent insomnia. It stops me from waking up during the bad dreams/terrors, meaning I'm not avoiding sleep, and subsequently falling asleep during the day.
I do need to exercise more in general anyway, which I'm sure would help significantly!
Again with the conking out and waking for meds time then napping some more 🥱
This fatigue is killing me. Needing lifts to do anything.
I managed to get some ink to print forms and some gesso but no palette in stock. Hoping for enough energy to get some more things today.
coffee, that was good
now for a shower and some clean clothes
New earbuds are great!
Still suss that they're Bluetooth, but seems fine so far, plus I can charge my phone AND listen to music at the same time
