  • late 2019, bought a used ASUS ROG laptop with a GTX1070. The LCD screen fucking sucks, because it gets all fucky when it heats and guess what? All the computer heat is blasted on it.

Still worth it, tho. I was sporting an old, 2012 ASUS Ultrabook with a GT 740M card and since I was doing lots of 3D printing, the older computer was struggling with files over 20MB (models with over 400k vertices, give or take)

  • In 2023 I upgraded from a 1060 to a 4080. It wasn't cheap but I figure I should be good for the next 5-7 years or more.

  • 970 -> 3070. Worth it for performance, not worth it buying a gpu in peak covid/crypto gold rush. 3070 handles everything I need for now. I'll probably look for a cheap 4080 in a few yeas.

  • About two years ago, from 2080ti to 4080. Nothing nvidia makes is "worth it" but I do use it a lot on a 77" 4k OLED TV and pretty much all games I play run quite well with all the goodies turned on (which includes DLSS, usually Quality, and framegen sometimes which can let me run DLAA), so in that sense I at least get some good mileage out of it.

My power bill is not great..
