it makes me sad that some neurodivergent people i know bully other neurodivergent people and call them “the weird kids”.
these people i know complain that they barely have any friends and that they’re considered “the weird kids” yet bully other neurodivergent people for that reason.
as someone with autism + adhd, this just makes me so sad.
I feel like this is a poison that affects every type of minority group, in-group members who disparage their in-group in hopes of gaining unique acceptance among the wider population. They've got women, black people, and from what I hear one out gay guy on Fox whose entire job it is to treat the phobic ideas of right wing nutjobs as normal and respectable. It'd be surprising if there were no autistic nor any ND people who haze others like them for just a crumb of acceptance.
It's called internalised and lateral ableism (or any kind of oppression, as has already been mentioned, these apply across the marginalisation board), and we're all guilty of it to one degree or another by simple virtue of existing and being socialised in an ableist society (in the same way all abled people are).
