Weekly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing?

Still finishing Hogwarts Legacy w/ my kids, and otherwise playing a lot of chess. Other games:

• Bomb Rush Cyberpunk - about halfway through
• Later Alligator
• Lair of the Clockwork God

Will probably finish one of those this weekend.

I finally started a blind playthrough of Dave the Diver after letting it sit in my backlog for ages. I'm not that far in, but it's great so far. The core game loop is fun and relaxing and the characters are all memorable.

And the over the top pixel art cutscenes, man. Worth the price for those alone.

I just finished playing Among Ashes and I thought it was quite good but I finished it in about 7 hours. This isn't an old game though, but it has a retro style for much of the game.

By myself, I'm playing The Witcher 3, bought it on GOG with the 2 DLCs for 10€, and it was one of my best buys.

I'm also playing Risk of Rain 2 and Hammerwatch with some friends.

I couldn't really settle on what to play this week so I ended up with a bit of a mess.

First things first, Counter-Strike 2 is no more. As engaging as the game is something just doesn't feel right for me with this one. My main issue seems to have something to do with controls since I never had this many issues getting stuck on corners and doorways with any of the previous games. I don't know what it is, I just can't get the feeling for them.
There's also a pretty severe performance issue which feels like a memory leak that happens quite often in the middle of a match - again, don't know why since it doesn't happen every time or only on certain maps.
All in all, I can safely say I had way more fun with CS:GO but since the legacy branch won't work for me (game only flickers for a second and closes) I can safely put this experiment to rest.

Second, my The Sims playthrough might be finished because of the sequel. I installed TS2 to refresh my memory and compare it with the original - I ended up playing through the night with barely any breaks. As much as I love the first game TS2 is just on another level and I ended up launching it whenever I had some free time, in contrast to the original which requires me to be in a specific mood to enjoy it.
I didn't have this much fun with the series in a long time now so it was funny to go through this return arc only to see EA release the legacy packs. I hope lots of new folks get to enjoy those games as both hold up really well despite their age.

I also spent some time playing Euro Truck Simulator 2. It was my main choice whenever I couldn't focus on anything.

Daggerfall is on hold until I had my fill of The Sims. It might take a while but I'll be back, eventually.
Medabots also took a back seat to some extent but I'm still actively playing here and there.

Finished Dragon Age Origins + the Awakening expansion, and am now playing Dragon Age Inquisition. It's taking me a bit of time to get used to the differences in spells, skills, and crafting. And why is there no crafting station in the Hinterlands?!? Let me make the things!

Bought the Wolfenstein bundle in the last GOG sale. Almost done with Wolfenstein: The New Order. The german in the English dub is hilarious, somebody really had some fun while dubbing.

I also bought 1000xRESIST on Steam. No idea what to expect from that game but the ratings are really good and the trailer looked cool.

Also, there's another Monster Hunter Wilds beta this weekend and apparently the crashes I had in the first beta are fixed so I might get to try it this time.

Replayed Myst. This time with environmental subtitles I was able to complete the rocket ship puzzle, so that was cool.

I just finished Outcast 2 a new beginning and it was an amazing 25 hours. The main story is a super janky patchwork mess that barely makes sense. But the open world stuff, the side quests and the weapon upgrade system make more then up for it. It's a gorgeous looking, well optimized gem.
