Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is being threatened with contempt of Congress for failing to supply documents for a GOP investigation into censorship of conservatives.
anti-clickbait tldr: “…contempt of Congress, for failing to supply documents related to an investigation into supposed censorship by tech companies of conservatives.” *yawn*
Ugh, this shit is so stupid. There's little evidence that conservatives are censored online. They just like to pull the victim card to get people riled up.
What ironic backwards nonsense. Conservatives are rarely censored as much as their victim complex makes them want to seem. From what I've seen, they're only sometimes censored if they violate the site policy and even then Zuckerberg reinstated the biggest offender. Republicans just want corporations to be like the government and not be able to take down any speech whatsoever.
Social media websites are private companies.
They are allowed to remove whatever speech they see fit. It's not a first amendment issue like some people think. Twitter has nothing to do with the first amendment unless the government is forcing Twitter to remove things. (Which, side note, they're not. They recommend things that they think should be removed. They don't force.)
I honestly wonder if Republicans think there is more censorship because there are less of them than there are of Democrats, independents, centrists, and legit undecided people. Maybe they see different percentages online than they do in person and feel like their voices are being suppressed.
Jim Jordan, noted defender of the "right" to defraud with criminal disinformation, wants to know why his henchmen didn't wave their magic wands and erase our free will. Maybe someone should inform Mr. Jordan that people can only be fooled into believing so many lies before even the very stupidest people become doubtful.
