Yeah, this ain't a real thing. Ships encounter waves and nobody is trying to dodge loose cannonballs while dealing with rough seas.

- I agree that this is not secure enough for normal weather but they might have something this for staging when preparing to fight. I have no idea
  
  I have a really hard time believing the two metals differ enough in how much they contract in cold temperatures to make the balls pop out.
