These labor leaders are organizing for 2028. Cooperation across unions and sectors—if carried out on a large scale—would be unprecedented in the 21st-century United States.

A general strike is difficult to crush. You can crush a strike here and there. You can crush several at once.
You cannot crush a strike of millions of people all over the country.
That's the whole point.

We saw with COVID what a single shitty week can do to the rich and capitalists.
To coordinate. This is being organized by large labor unions not tumblr leftists. They are trying to align as many union contracts as possible to expire on March 31st 2028. This also gives people time to organize their workplaces if they aren't already unionized. People can also take time to prepare strike funds. It is hard to save in this economy but if you can save $50/month for the next 3 years you'll have something to coast on during the strike.
Yeah the contracts lining up is actually a good time. To bad it isn't a little sooner.

People still need to eat. Capital will react harshly. There hasn't been a general strike in the US in living memory, let alone of this magnitude.
You can't just throw down the gauntlet against power itself and hope for the best. It takes years of preparation and even then the chance of failure is high.

Not really. Things aren't going to get better by then, and the US government will absolutely keep killing people. But most of us alive now will still be slogging along in 4 years.
I am doubtful that my union will still exist by then, but I will do whatever I can to be able to not go to work if that strike happens. A general strike in the US could give the workers a fighting chance. Right now we seem disposable, we need to show them we are indispensable.

i like this. To really make an impact, we need to start getting tech/corporate unions established & involved ASAP. This will really speed things up since everything in corporate is banking on everyone being as efficient as possible all the time.
Get people from the new/booming industries involved. Think AI & data centers- the engineers, manufacturers, distributors, construction workers, if any one part of this line i gone for even a week, so much gets thrown off. If you get multiple players to pause, nobody else can do anything.
Great point. If you know anyone in relevant fields, talk to them. Much of this will need to be done by word of mouth because you know the algorithms on the big sites are not going to like this.

Read the other comments, that has already been answered. A serious general strike will take serious prep. Unions are aligning their contracts and building strike funds.
