I gotta tell you folks, after reading various discussions on Lemmy the past few days while also being an existing Bluesky user -
Mastodon and Lemmy seem to be having this having this really intense mean-girls gossipfest about Bluesky and Threads, meanwhile Bluesky is just doing its own thing, oblivious to Threads or all the mean-girls stuff. Everyone over there mostly just excited about more new users if they've commented on it at all, IME.
Â
IMO, it's closer to this meme, but still a loose fit. I know Threads isn't in the picture, that's also accurate. Whatever Threads is off doing is... whatever Threads is off doing.
Itâs be nice to get more users to Lemmy instead of another platform, but Iâm more of a link-aggregator guy than a microblog kinda guy, so Iâm glad thereâs a microblog tool out there competing with Xitter.
I almost never see Mastodon or Threads mentioned at all, but I suppose that is testament to how different one person's Bluesky experience can be to another's with feeds etc.
That's why I'm finding these discussions here kind of amusing.
It feels like Lemmy is over here going "What do you think of Mastodon and Threads, Bluesky?! Huh?!"
And Bluesky is all "I really don't think of them."
My experience has been that in general, bluesky has already moved onto the phase of just regular content, instead of content about itself, at leasty feed. There are still posts for things like starter packs and stuff that pop up, but mostly it's just normal news and hot takes and stuff.
Honestly, the fediverse stuff like lemmy and mastodon really has 'i don't even know who you are' vibes. People on bluesky don't really seem to care about any of it.
People are sharing valid criticism of why they personally left, or don't currently use Mastodon. In the last year of being on Bluesky every post on Lemmy "Why don't people use Mastodon?" and people are telling you why.
I haven't seen shit talking as much as "This is why mastodon isn't welcoming to most people". It's a fine platform for its niche but it's a niche, and some mastodon users seem a little salty about it / don't realize they're a niche.
Literally this. bsky is just chilling while a group of users on lemmy and mastodon are losing their shit about it, without doing anything to make their own platforms actually better for the average normie user. If they don't want normies there's nothing to complain about, if they do, they should be taking notes on what bsky is doing.
*key forks are just out of shot on the left peeking out from behind the parked cars hoping everyone tires themselves out so it can swoop in late and kick all their asses.
