The new dress code, implemented by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, will allow Sen. John Fetterman to wear his trademark casual attire like hoodies and shorts on the Senate floor.
The candid reviews of the new rules, which went into effect Monday, even included mockery from Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who joked to reporters that she planned to “wear a bikini” on Tuesday.
Susan “I believe the president has learned his lessons” Collins will have to wear bikini with pearl necklace, just to clutch the pearls at every GOP hypocrisy
Ultimately in a democracy I want my representation to feel like a representation of folks like me. If you want to wear a suit to work that’s great, but maybe us rust belt democrats want someone who’d rather dress like a union steward to go represent our interests. Senator Fetterman in his hoodie looks exactly like the sort of person you’d expect to represent Pennsylvanians.
Also maybe just maybe, I care more about the quality of their work than what they wear doing it.
I mean, in fairness, have you seen how Fetterman fits into a suit and tie? He makes anything look like a hoodie and shorts. I don't mean that as a perjorative, they just don't make suits his size unless you want your Senator buying $5,000 tailored suits. Or worse... getting $5,000 tailored suits donated to them from special interests.
Again… this was the predictable response from republicans. They also failed to remember that they had a literal orange clown in the oval office for a few days over the course of 2016-2020. So they themselves set the precedent
This would have been such an obvious slam-dunk for Republicans! Their base hates suits and ties (and the people who wear them). They could have started wearing blue jeans and sleeveless shirts and work boots to the Senate floor, but no, they need to feel like their jobs are important.
I think they should all be nude. Both the house and the senate. I’m serious about that. People can joke about shriveled dicks and sagging breasts but eliminating clothing altogether would help to eliminate a lot of the partisan nonsense
“I think there is a certain dignity that we should be maintaining in the Senate, and to do away with the dress code, to me, debases the institution,” Collins added.

Hey...If she wants to wear a bikini, who am I to tell her no? Go for it. Unless of course, she doesn't actually want to and is just being intentionally obtuse like a old judgmental cunt.
WASHINGTON — Republicans on Monday ridiculed Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's loosening of the upper chamber's dress code that will allow for recreation-like clothing on the Senate floor.
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia called the relaxed rules “terrible,” South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said he’s “not a big fan,” and Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa simply said, “It stinks.”
The candid reviews of the new rules, which went into effect Monday, even included mockery from Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, who joked to reporters that she planned to “wear a bikini” on Tuesday.
Fetterman, a first-term senator who has often been seen wearing casual clothes around Capitol Hill following treatment for clinical depression this year, wore a suit to his swearing-in ceremony in January.
Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski lingered for a bit longer on the floor in her “travel clothes,” which included black pants, a quarter zip and sneakers.
Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, a self-described "styling guy" who will often vote from the edge of the Senate floor while wearing clothes he'll travel home in, said the relaxed rules were unlikely to change things for him.

As much as I love Fetterman, I'm with the Republicans on this one. It's the same reason you can't curse in court, you have to stand up at the appropriate times and outwardly agree to show seriousness for the proceedings, etc: We're here for a super important reason. Whole people's lives will be changed based on what we do here. Take it seriously or GTFO.
I get that Fetterman is huge and wearing a nice suit every day would genuinely be a hardship for him, but there has to be some kind of solution that doesn't step us one step closer to fistfights and drunk congresspeople on the floor. I don't think MTG should be able to yell and be generally awful, I think Boebert should get in some sort of trouble that a private citizen wouldn't get in for being publicly a drunken tramp, and I think everyone in congress should still have to wear suits. It's important, take it seriously.
