Abortion is on the ballot in nine states and motivating voters across the US
The future legality and availability of abortion hinges not only on ballot measures, as policies could shift depending on who controls Congress and the presidency.
In Missouri opponents to Amendment 3 (which would add abortion rights to the constitution) are plastering billboards with bald faced lies like:
- It will prevent you from suing any doctors for malpractice
- It will give gender reassignment surgery to minors
- It will let children get said surgery without parental consent
- It will require tax payer funded gender reassignment surgery
- It will require tax payer funded abortions
- It will allow abortions for any reason up until the minute of birth (heavily implying it may go after birth)
None of those are in the actual amendment. None. Even the late term abortion shit is only carved out for life of the mother in the amendment.
Same for TV ads opposing our Amendment 4 in Florida. Just so much demonstrably false info. Early in the election ads ramp-up, there was one that actually showed the full text of the amendment on-screen, while making false claims about it in the voiceover.
They're pandering to a base that does not care about facts, and who often will not even bother to read what is put in front of them.
Yep heard a pair of ads yesterday against amendments 3 and 4 and both just straight up lied about what was contained in the amendments. 4 in particular is just a really basic amendment that you can read in its entirety in less than a minute. The short summary is that it completely banned abortion restrictions except specifically in the case of a minor, and then that requires guardian consent. Which of course is exactly what the ad blatantly lied about claiming it would allow abortions without guardian consent. How is it not illegal to lie like that in political ads? This isn't even bending the truth or saying something misleading, it's demonstrably false.
They said all the same crap in Ohio when we voted on it.
So many things need to also be on the ballot if you ask me. A ton of other things.
