Trader Joe's recalls 653,000 scented candles due to fire hazard

The company has received three reports of minor property damage and two reports of minor burns.

Uhh... isn't that the point of candles? To burn?

Well, these ones can spread the flame from the wick directly to the wax, which would pose a larger than normal fire hazard for a candle.
- In a release on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website posted Thursday, Trader Joe’s said the flame on its Mango Tangerine candles can spread from the wick to the wax, causing a larger than expected flame

You guys... We need to talk about trader joes. It fucking sucks now, they are trying to end the NLRB while rubbing shoulders with some truly vile fucking companies. Also shrinkflation running rampant and obviously cutting corners like this. Fucking sucks.

I'm guessing it's the orange oils in the wax making it more flammable than normal.

Unrelated, it's soy/coconut blend which means it would make an amazing massage candle ;) Those have a really low melting temperature and turn into warm massage oil when burned. I want one now to uhm, study its characteristics.
As if I needed another reason to hate candles.
