this is one of my creations and a recent one at that but I still cannot fucking help but crack up every time I've seen it in the header over the past couple days

I never got that tagline, is it because "lighting up" has a second meaning relating to gun violence, and "light a __" means setting fire to something?

Presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has been accused of plagiarising Barack Obama in several campaign speeches.
In a compilation video featuring side-by-side comparisons of the two men's speeches, Mr Buttigieg is shown using almost the exact same words as Mr Obama on multiple occasions.
The embarrassing video, assembled by Brennan Murphy at video agency The Recount, comes as Mr Buttigieg faces mockery for a tweet in which he seemed to borrow from one of the speeches in question.
Describing how the audience at a campaign event used their phone screens when the room hit by a power cut, Mr Buttigieg tweeted: “If we can light up a high school gym – we can light a neighborhood.

It's absolutely a send up of US gun culture lol.
I find it funny as a non-sequitur, an empty slogan typical of Democrats that sounds really nice but glosses over any of the obstacles
A similar statement might be: "If we can feed my pet cat—we can feed the world." Like what does that even mean, why are people cheering? It feels like a parody which is why I didn't realize it was fucking real for a long time lol.
Yeah "to light up" also means "to shoot". So it works on two levels: it's an empty platitude, and it is advocating for gun violence
