Nothing special, just woke up and went to office right now writing this comment. did some configuration of zsh, vscode to make it a good experience to debug Odoo software.
This comment about odoo software made me think of that Bowie song from labyrinth where he says "voodoo who do you do the power of the baaabe!"
So things are really looking up.
Missed my train back home, now I've got to wait 45 minutes in the middle of nowhere.
Maybe the universe thought you needed 45 minutes to just sit, chill, and look out at things you don't normally see.

Crap
Two more days at the old job. It’s going slower than molasses. Usually there is hoopla planned when someone leaves this team but I haven’t heard anything about that happening. I can’t decide if I rather duck out quietly or do the hoopla.
This weekend there is a big block party happening near me. I said I wasn’t gonna go but I changed my mind. I like getting out and going amongst people sometimes.
Visiting the head office, something I don't do very often. Mostly to give people a proper farewell and go through the offloading regarding my work laptop et al. Tomorrow is my last day here.
"It's visible that you're field crew. It's not often that people hand in their laptop, and the dirt is in the outside instead of covering the keyboard. On that note, once it's off the domain you can keep it, we don't need it".
So I guess I'll be using the same laptop in my new job, starting Monday.
I’m starting a new job on Monday too - with the same laptop. Will you still be working in the field or are you trading that for indoors?

I’ve spent the work week stuck at the office, and have the weekends back at home, since the new year. This one has been the worst one yet. I’m taking every Friday off for the next few months, so this is the last day of the week for me. But, it’s still rough. It’s been a train wreck.
For example, there was an issue I inherited from someone else. So, when the next higher ups at regional asked about what was going on, I explained in detail what I was handed and what very limited timeline I had to get it running to meet its deadline. Not to make something perfect with more time, just to get it out the door. Then this individual didn’t read my detailed response and asked the same question again. So, I copied that small portion that originally answered her question (removing the deep dive explanation) out of my prior email, added ‘like I said in the below email’ because she added a CC of her boss to it, escalating for some reason, and I did the same for my boss, and I wanted to make sure that the new comers knew what I had said and was saying… and then her boss responded back asking about why I had ‘attitude’ and why I didn’t do it ‘right’ the first time.
I didn’t have attitude, and I didn’t start the project, I just made sure we got it out the door in the very limited time period I had. That mission wasn’t going to wait for me, so I made sure we completed it. The email was a concise and professional. She didn’t read my last one with detail on what lead to the problem, and her boss didn’t either, before they jumped down my throat about it. The last hour yesterday, that I could have been using elsewhere on other projects, was sitting in my boss’ office as he explained to them the same situation I did and that having read the email chain himself he absolutely sees what I meant and how I meant it. If these guys would have just called and asked… instead of putting people on blast…
Anyway, I’m still in my room at the office putting off getting up. I’m going to skip my work out and get Starbucks instead, for the second time this week. Fuck it.
It sucks that people are so quick to escalate, especially when they're the ones misunderstanding the situation. Surely they were apologetic once it was explained. Ha.

Yeah, you’d hope they’d be sorry about it. But, no. My boss had a phone conversation with their boss and then we discussed it this morning. They’re on their toes, so we’re going to continue like we have been until everything blows over. Short, guarded and professional.
Yeah, I got promoted from one region to the other, 4 hours away. I bought a decent home a few years ago with a really good interest rate and the value is up about 75k. I’d rather not sell it. Which means I’m living in a room on our footprint. It’s not unheard of in our industry, so much so that we even have a name for it; “Geo Bachelor”.
Got Influenza A. My wife and daughter too. Shit's fucked. Haven't felt this sick since COVID in 21. And we even had our flu vaccinations a month or 2 ago... So must be some other strain.

Been working on cleaning out my mom's house. Called a guy for what i thought was a small repair. That turned into $10k (that i agreed to and am now scrambling to find) and led to a foundation repair estimate of $25k plus expected plumbing issues. I don't really want to sell it but not sure i can afford to keep it. Sad, frustrated, still have a tremendous amount of stuff to donate/sell and much cleaning to do. Grateful that i have summer break to do it so there's time to appreciate the memories. Also happy that my son is living there, covering the mortgage, and having a nice, safe home that he wouldn't otherwise be able to afford.
Found out today that some of my coworkers are antivaxxers who just got the required COVID shots for work, and they spent lunch gaily chatting about how it's not needed while I seethed. I will be avoiding them from now on.
People like this make me lose faith in humanity.
Blithely assuring each other that it's not needed, as if millions haven't died. Another coworker is super upset because she lost 15 family members in India pre vaccine to COVID. The ignorance is real and I shall eat elsewhere now.
Someone at my judo club got ringworm so we're all tightening up our hygiene. I usually wash my gear in one load at the end of the week, and I re-wear my kneepads, belt, etc. but now I'm washing everything right after practice... It's so much laundry. I wish there was a machine that folded laundry!
Since I'm washing my hair more often I started using a leave-in conditioner and my hair is a lot more curly than I thought it was, so that's been nice.
I also cooked with mint from my garden. It was delicious 😋
