The Long March [NEW DOMAIN] – VOTING IS DONE, CONGRATULATIONS .CHATHEADS

Voting has lapsed! No further votes will be tallied. This is now a discussion post.

The results are in for my bespoke implementation of the Schulze method with my bespoke tallying system (no problems with the output it's just really annoying and totally manual):

 txt

Total ballots: 288

Winner(s) [Schulze method]:
hexbear.chat

Domain ranking (pairwise win count, margin over opponents):
1. hexbear.chat (wins over 9 of 9 opponents, total margin 1367)
2. hexbear.red (wins over 8 of 9 opponents, total margin 965)
3. hexbear.com (wins over 7 of 9 opponents, total margin 561)
4. hexbear.zone (wins over 6 of 9 opponents, total margin 282)
5. hexbear.net.cn (wins over 5 of 9 opponents, total margin 64)
6. hexbear.space (wins over 4 of 9 opponents, total margin -320)
7. hexbear.online (wins over 3 of 9 opponents, total margin -597)
8. hexbear.live (wins over 2 of 9 opponents, total margin -705)
9. exbear.net (wins over 1 of 9 opponents, total margin -777)
10. h.exbear.net (wins over 0 of 9 opponents, total margin -840)

congratulations hexbear.chat :dean-smile:

or rather its advocates tbh but it's fun to think about these domains like the disco elysium mailbox. good domain :headpat:

synthesis has been achieved! sorrymasen to the one user who can't browse .chat domains on their work laptop :doggirl-sweat: try setting hexbear.com to the hexbear IP (should be 37.187.73.130) in your hosts file, could be a stopgap fix don't do this for now as we're looking into some server fuckery to do some preemptive prevention

  • free from tallying :sisyphus: (at least until the next thing that we have to poll)

in the immortal words of hawk tuah girl doing crisis PR for her cryptoscam crash, i'm goin to bed, y'all. good night!

  • I would prefer to find a domain that satisfied various technical requirements such as being resistant to possible future blunders and malicious attacks. Then just make the site name work with an appropriate TLD

But there is no info available and maybe if there is it's hidden in the most impossible to read thread this site has ever produced. So there is not really any point in bringing it up now. Here you go.

I want to say this is the most effective anti-communist propaganda I ever encountered. I don't want this political system even as a joke. Using a million ugly white men as pictographs for voting options is such an onerous and unkind method of rigging this up. I feel like it's some sort of passive aggressive thing about making a further problem to distract from the original problem. It's kind of how social media rolls, goofs and gaffs just keep going. "Let that sink in". Now look what happened. Just keep going.

It makes total sense that an online, volunteer and adhoc committee for a project like this would make blunders that benefit a lot from 20/20 hindsight. Whatever. la lutte continue. But why does the solution involve everyone being punished? discussion is impossible here and discussion is a big part of democracy.

I remember once some really effective young union organizers were telling me about doing solidarity support for striking nurses in a pretty conservative area. They showed up and kind of put the nurses off kilter because they were all punk and counter culture looking. But then as they got to working together to plan actions and stuff, the nurses said to them, "You guys look like you're just here to cause trouble but when you're around the meetings run like the smoothest PTA ever."

I hope the anecdote makes sense: the fun inside joke subculture stuff does not need to obstruct actually making a little practice of democracy. Everyone living in the west needs that practice wherever they can get it because many of us have literally neever participated in a meaningful democratic collective decision in our whole lives. A situation like this is an opportunity for political education, to show that decisions are made better via democracy and that collective decision making isn't an arduous waste of time. But instead it is just a hostile construction.

    It's all lore I guess.

  • ::: spoiler she was forced to look up different ranked choice voting systems we're tentatively leaning towards one of the Condorcet methods here gamers :::

  • idk if im allowed to post twice but im not voting on this second comment, i just want to say it's a damn shame hexbear.gay isnt on the ballot tbqh, if anything can be done to contact the owner and change that, like a second poll between the winner of this and hexbear.gay that'd be like super duper ideal

  • For people who don't use regex text editors here is a plain text list of all the options sorted alphabetically in a less onerous fashion. they're not my votes, it's just a courtesy.

tbh wish you guys would take suggestions on rebranding "hexbear" seeing it's from a meme that was popular for like a month and doesn't exactly have the ring of a social media forum to it. it's like if reddit were rebranded to "dogewow.com" because that was the-thing in 2015. i haven't even seen the og

    posted since like 2021

not saying the logo should be rebranded too i kinda fw it, although the expanded version (

) has kinda an ugly color scheme/font. giving 2018 discord vaporwave

  • hexbear.red seems very on brand though for a bunch of communists. It would have been my first choice, but the .cn one has more trolling potential and that seems more in keeping with our shitposting spirit

Esoteir's objections to h.exbear.net and exbear.net are good points and I second his recommendation to disqualify them. ~~hexbear.net.cn would be funny because it'll get the nato libs up in arms about us cozying up to China~~ I'm sad to say but people's objections to hexbear.net.cn as a possible phishing risk for being too similar to the old domain are correct.

    Hexbear.com seems awful -- we're not a company.

  • We went to the ONE place uncorrupted by capitalism,

    1. hexbear.space
    2. :dean-smile: .chat
    3. :dean-frown: .com

It also reminds me of 'a queer space', 'safe space' etc

I think .net.cn is a really bad idea and huge security risk and confusing, I think .cn would have been fine, but not .net.cn

Same as the other urls with hexbear.net tlds

  • hexbear.zone :stay-out-of-my-territory:

    hexbear.chat :dean-smile:

    hexbear.space :dean-neutral:

Zone just feels really nice for some reason. I honestly like red too (possibly because it's shortest) but don't think putting a colour in the name is a good idea for left-unity. Dot com is not even worth pursuing as the US controls it.

  • I have already voted, but a question. we're blocked in China, and none of us actually know why. there's been speculation it's the conflation with the shitocoin, but we don't actually know; others have mentioned other lemmy instances are also blocked in China. whatever the reason we're blocked in China is, do you not think being on a .cn domain might cause us trouble? there are also laws around social media in China, do the admins know what those are and how to comply with them?
