As a reminder, please do not discuss current struggle sessions in the mega. We want this to be a little oasis for all of us and the best way to do that is not to feed into existing conflict on the site.

Also, be sure to properly give content warnings and put sensitive subjects behind proper spoiler tags. It's for the mental health of not just your comrades, but yourself as well.

  • Soooooo I’m definitely coming out at work after over 2 years of being in the closet. Out on medical leave right now and I’m pretty nervous to do it, should I just send an email? Or something? Change my picture on slack and show up in a dress? Idk haha

    • Why not both an email and picture change?

Always good to see you around, Jenniferrr!

    • Congrats! Obviously, this will very between workplaces, but I scheduled a meeting with my boss, the institute director and HR (note that I work in academia) where I discussed my plans for social transition/asked questions about policies. I then showed up to the weekly social hour presenting full femme with a pride pins and pronoun buttons, and then I put some pride stickers up on my cube.

Idk how well it worked as no one other than the folks I came out to personally have brought it up, but there hasn't been any transphobic actions/behaviors that I have perceived at least.

      • Nice!! That all sounds like a good idea tbh. Honestly I can’t tell if this will be a surprise to anyone though because I have been transitioning for a year and a half, all of which I’ve been working at this job… I was basically just planning on not wearing a hoodie and showing up in a women’s t shirt basically lol. My job is very casual so it feels weird for me to come in in a dress or something :/ idk why this part is so stressful I have been completely out in every other facet of my life for a year now

        • I was transitioning at work as well, but also wearing makeup frequently and some alt/punk tinged fashion so I don't think it should have been a complete shock. For my full femme outfit, I just wore a bright women's v-neck and a padded bra along with a full face of makeup, not a dress or a skirt (I have to wear pants for my job since I work in a lab).
