Grapefruit - Trans Megathread from March 31st, 2025 to April 6th, 2025

Warning: Grapefruit can interact with drugs, such as decreasing the effectiveness of estradiol, making Oxycodone last longer, increasing blood levels when on Viagra, and much more.

Grapefruit inhibits multiple enzymes in the small intestine, most notably CYP3A4. CYP3A4 is involved in the breaking down of a lot of drugs, so when it's inhibited Oxycodone becomes inactive slower, and estradiol won't break down all the way into estrogen. Drugs that are affected by grapefruit will often have warnings on their packaging

Personally, I like putting just a little bit of salt on my grapefruit, to counteract the bitter flavor. Dumping sugar on it doesn't help. Grapefruits are about half as sour as lemons, since they have half the citric acid content.

Grapefruits were accidentally created as a cross between the sweet orange and the pomelo, in Barbados. Those fruits originate from Asia, but were brought to the Caribbean in the 17th century. Since it's parent fruits are native to Asia, it grows well in Asia too.

and
(China and Vietnam) are the two largest producers of Grapefruits, producing collectively 6.3 million tons out of the 9.8 million tons of worldwide production.

The painting was made by Robert Papp, who has a website here: https://robertpapp.com/. I don't really know anything about the guy.

The lemon things with all of the recipes was really cool, but to be honest I just like grapefruit raw, cut in half and ate with a spoon.

  • Anyone here have issues staying asleep? Before transition I didn't have real issues with this but since transition it's been a problem. I got on some sleeping pills but am scared of getting addicted to them so I only take them every so often.

Idk if sleeping is just... Gonna be difficult from now on? Or if it's anxiety? Idk.

    • Same, I gave up on a "full night's sleep" and now just get up early and have a 90-ish minute siesta before work.

Although I think it's just the spiro making me pee multiple times a night. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

    • I've had sleep issues since I was a kid, now it's mostly having a really hard time falling asleep. Getting enough exercise and melatonin help a lot for me but it's still a struggle sometimes. Anxiety is definitely a factor. When I was going through some super stressful shit a couple months ago I consistently was unable to sleep for upwards of around 48 hours at a time and was perpetually exhausted. Having some of those stresses end was the biggest improvement, now I'm back to my normal level of bad sleep, lol

      Hope your sleep improves

      • Oh good to know. My job has been pretty incredibly stressful and this week was particularly bad. Like so bad I could taste that bad taste in your mouth after triggering my fight or flight response. Yesterday was my rest day though from exercise and I am pretty much unable to sleep more than 5 hours on rest days :/

    • Yes, my sleep is usually super broken up. Although not transition related.

    • I've only had it lately as work stress is ticking up and family stuff is too.

I had plenty of issues with sleep before transitioning but I have anxiety and OCD issues. Since I started progesterone, my sleep has been absolutely better. It can help with sleep! But I'm also doing shift work so it's a crap shoot anyway lol.

      • Lol nice I have OCD too and yeah anxiety in general. I am also on prog and I'm actually wondering if the prog is hurting me haha. It's def making my boobs bigger though so .. it's worth it
