Seamless Co-op mod for DS3 released

First release of the Dark Souls 3 Seamless Co-op mod, from the same person who brought us Elden Ring Seamless Co-op. They are considering this an alpha release so expect breakage!

Do you need an "illegitimate" copy of the game for such a mod to work or does a legit copy off Steam, for example, work too?
It actually only works with the legit Steam copy.
How do they enforce it?
I didn't check since I have the game on Steam but it says on the mod page that it needs the Steam version in online mode.
The mod doesn't do any enforcement itself. It uses Steam matchmaking so your account will need to be online with good VAC standing.
In the mod description the author specifically calls out pirated versions and says they will not put any effort into making it work. I can only assume how many times they were asked the same question before adding that disclaimer.
