UPDATE: It has come to our attention that the auction for hexbearnet has ended, and our pending transfer out of Sav appears to have gone through. There is still significant uncertainty surrounding the domain and what will happen, but we are cautiously optimistic that it will at least not fall into actively malicious hands.

Wait wait wait, did the original owner come through or not?
- yes and no, she helped to escalate the problem to upper levels of support that basically told us, you missed payment by 1 day and the domain name is on auction, nothing we can do.
  there was a technical route that we tried in order to transfer the hexbear domain name from one registrar (digital landlord) to another. we didn't expect it to work and based on the websites appears to have worked?
  we are still going forward with hexbear.chat but it may help to mitigate the potential problems of a malicious entity obtaining the domain name
  
  FYI this is the first mention I have seen of 'hexbear.chat' and I am on the site very regularly. Could you post it someplace more visisble? Thanks for your good work o7

  not to add to y'all's workload more, but if the domain got transferred, doesn't that mean the original owner now has it again? I'm not too familiar with domain stuff but I don't understand why the new domain would still be necessary at that point, can domain ownership not be transferred? or does she not want to transfer it to someone else or something
  it just seems like a bit of a headache for federation/the userbase if the new domain isn't strictly necessary anymore, and the OG domain's ownership could be transferred to the current admin group
  
  we are 100% pursuing that while we set up hexbear.chat, we will put up a discussion post laying out all the information and what we are doing going forward in the next few hours.
  I totally get that this is convoluted and am sorry for that
