For that I'd go with an opticians, my dad had issues with his from Zenni because they didn't get the lenses quite right. He did have issues with his eyes though that required some complex glasswork though, so that could have contributed.

Just re-read Jack L. Chalker's Well of Souls and Four Lords of the Diamond books as well as Piers Anthony's Apprentice Adept series, looking for more that combine magic and sci-fi in interesting ways.
If you haven't read those books, give them a go!
