The Worst TV Show Finales
  • Didn't the huge group of humans that could never agree on anything all decide to go live without technology with cave men at the end? It's been a very long time since I watched it but I remember hating that. iirc there were some unresolved plot lines too, but I don't remember enough to list them. I was a huge fan of the early seasons.

  • Anon sets the mood
  • Do you just remember where you are in every show (or movie that you only partway watched)? That's the biggest appeal of jellyfin/plex to me, so I can go in and continue from where I left off without keeping track.

  • What generation are you?
  • Which is exactly why I qualified it saying it's not exact. What dates are you using? You must be using something to say that Millennials are 25 years while the others are 10. That's MY point.

  • What generation are you?
  • It's not an exact definition, but below I think is close:

Baby Boomers: Born 1946-1964 (18 years)

    Generation X: Born 1965-1980 (15 years)

    Millennials (Gen Y): Born 1981-1996 (15 years)

    Generation Z: Born 1997-2012 (15 years)

    Generation Alpha: Born 2013-present

What you're saying doesn't line up with this at all, but maybe you have other generation dates in mind.

  • What is the point of Xbox?
  • If it's a subcategory of console then it is a console. Otherwise it's like saying a square is not a rectangle because it is a square, or a cat is not a mammal because it is a cat.

That's why I say you are searching for a term for things like the Xbox and Playstation - because it would be useful to have a term for that. Simply "console" is not a good fit imo, but you may disagree.

  • What is the point of Xbox?
  • Ah, that does clarify a lot. You're wanting a term to refer to the Xbox and Playstation class devices since they're in this closely competing realm, but people already have a preconceived notion of what a "console" is (I would consider handheld to be consoles, for example).

It does seem like it would be useful to have a term for those.

  • What is the point of Xbox?
  • The person I was responding to was citing costs accrued for screen and battery as a reasoning for why steam deck is not a console, so I was giving an example (wii u) that contradicts that reasoning.

I don't actually care if you consider the steam deck or wii u or anything is a console or not. My point was that I don't see a concrete definition anywhere in this thread and that maybe a more nuanced view would be appropriate.

  • What is the point of Xbox?
  • Reading through the above comments it seems like goalposts keep moving on what counts as a console. Does the wii u not count as a console because the controller had a screen and the price to performance is poor?

I'm not sure any of you have a concrete definition for a console, and maybe there isn't one. It might be more of a spectrum with open and configurable devices on one end and the more focused devices with walled garden software on the other.

Then you can say that ps5 is more like a console than steam deck is, and steam deck is more like a console than a pc.

  • Lowest-taxed group in each state of the United States
  • If someone is underpaid, that means they are working harder/longer than they should for the pay they get, right? Which means they are giving more than they are getting. That makes it the opposite of leaching.

Walmart is the one getting more than they should for the amount of pay they offer. So isn't it Walmart that is the leach in this example?

  • Have you ever been in an argument where you absolutely objectively proved you were correct?
  • Do we all have an internal compass because of the garden of eden, or from believing in Christianity? If it's just from the garden of eden and doesn't require belief, then atheists are just as moral as you are and your argument makes no sense.

If a moral compass comes from religious belief, then you are telling on yourself that you only abstain from being a shitty person because you're afraid of consequences from God.
