If you look into the article, when this is mentioned, there is a relevant link. I think it is worth taking a look at it, because it gives perspective on this topic. Actually, a few, not only one.

The countries with the biggest skews in favour of boys in sex ratios at birth have seen a reversion towards the natural rate.

In a handful of places, the overall birth statistics appear to reflect a preference for girls over boys.

But in most countries, any preference for girls expressed in polls is not strong enough to show in the overall sex ratio at birth. Most parents-to-be seem to balk at sex-selective abortions, in other words.

The assumption that daughters will be more nurturing whereas sons will grow distant is ingrained even in the most egalitarian societies.

Αυτό με την αυτάρκεια πιστεύω ότι έχει πολύ νόημα. Συλλογική αυτάρκεια όμως, όχι ατομική.

Όπως τα βλέπω τα πράγματα, όσο χρησιμοποιούμε το υπάρχον σύστημα, έχει δύναμη πάνω μας γιατί το χρειαζόμαστε για επιβίωση. Φτιάχνοντας δίκτυα αυτάρκειας - ειδικά στις πόλεις - μπορούμε σιγά-σιγά ν' αρχίσουμε να χρησιμοποιούμε το σύστημα όλο κ λιγότερο. Όσο λιγότερο το χρησιμοποιούμε τόση λιγότερη δύναμη έχει πάνω μας.

Όσο για το βίγκαν καταλαβαίνω τι λες. Εγώ μέχρι πεσκετέριαν το χω πάει, μάλλον γιατί έμαθα να ψαρεύω πριν να μάθω να διαβάζω. Αλλά σ' αυτή τη συζήτηση έχοντας άξονα το συλλογικό δεν χρειάζεται να κάνουμε όλοι οι άνθρωποι τα ίδια πράγματα. Δλδ αν σιχαίνεσαι να καθαρίζεις ψάρια, αλλά σ' αρέσει να τα τρως, άσ'το πάνω μου αυτό κ κόψε σαλάτα ή κόψε ξύλα για τη φωτιά κλπ

Να ξεκαθαρίσω κ κάτι άλλο. Μερικές σκέψεις είναι αυτές, προφανώς δεν λέω ότι έχω όλες τις απαντήσεις. Πιστεύω ότι είναι σημαντικό κ να κάνουμε ανακύκλωση αλλά κ να υιοθετούμε συνήθειες που φροντίζουν το περιβάλλον. Το ατομικό επίπεδο βέβαια από μόνο του δεν είναι σε καμία περίπτωση αρκετό.

Το πρόβλημα ξεκινάει από την παραγωγή. Πχ: Γιατί η οδοντόκρεμα που είναι ήδη σε πλαστικό σωληνάριο, να είναι μέσα σε συσκευασία από χαρτόνι κ να έχει κ πλαστικό να προστατεύει το χαρτόνι; Γιατί τα βερίκοκα να είναι σε πλαστικό κοφινάκι κ να έχουν κ διχτάκι γύρω-γύρω. Γιατί τα αναψυκτικά να μην είναι όλα σε γυάλινες κ μόνο συσκευασίες; Σίγουρα όχι για περιβαλλοντικούς λόγους. Αυτό που λέμε οικονομία είναι μάλλον ότι πιο σπάταλο έχει υπάρξει στον πλανήτη.

Dammit, very long indeed. It seems thatnearly 4,00,000 farmers committed suicide in India between 1995 and 2018. This translates into approximately 48 suicides every day..

For me, this is beautiful because thanks to the many rows, we can access more stuff in just one click.

I don't know how anyone would feel about the following, nor how easy or difficult it would be to implement something like that, but I'll say it anyways. I was wondering if we could somehow access all these in one click, instead of two. Meaning, what if these lists were on the sidebar? Or perhaps create a new, narrower sidebar on the left side? Possibly, them having the option to collapse as well?

I am not really sure I understand what you mean. Of course 0.5°C is very important, but to my understanding, the Paris Agreement is really not going as planned.

As the official deadline passes for countries to submit their revised Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, only 13 of the 195 parties have done so. Alarmingly, this group includes just five developed countries, which are required to lead the way on climate action.

Under the Paris Agreement, every country must update its national climate action plan every five years. These NDC plans outline how nations intend to reduce emissions and adapt to climate impacts to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This year’s submissions should extend their new NDCs to 2030 and outline new objectives for the period up to 2035, setting the tone for a decisive decade of climate action.

It looks like the IMO's pledge to reduce emissions by at least 20% is totally feasible. At least according to the following recent study

Reducing travel speeds and using an intelligent queuing system at busy ports can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from oceangoing container vessels by 16-24%, according to researchers. Not only would those relatively simple interventions reduce emissions from a major, direct source of greenhouse gases, the technology to implement these measures already exists.

Maybe so, maybe no. It's not predetermined.

It's what we do now that will shape the future. I mean, we the people. We cannot rely on governments or corporations to do the right thing without us forcing them to. By now, we know this.

So, I believe that conversations about solutions are more fruitful than deterministic statements, no matter how highly upvoted these statements are.
