Why Harris is taking her campaign to a state she won’t win: Texas
  • That’s true, but the claim that California would be red without gerrymandering doesn’t hold up. They have 52 reps, 40-12 currently. If they were evenly apportioned based on the popular vote in 2020 it would be around 35-17. Definitely a difference, but not a massive one.

  • Why Harris is taking her campaign to a state she won’t win: Texas
  • California voted for Biden almost 2 to 1 in 2020, a margin of over 5 million votes. There is no amount of gerrymandering (or un-gerrymandering) that would make California red.

Texas, on the other hand, went for Trump by 600,000 votes (out of 11 million). Solid blue is definitely not in the realm of possibility, but it could swing blue by a small margin.

  • REPORT: Arm is sensationally canceling the license that allowed Qualcomm to make Snapdragon chips which power everything from Microsoft's Copilot+ PCs to Samsung's Galaxy smartphones and tablets
  • Saying an ISA is just a hardware API vastly oversimplifies what an architecture is. There is way more to it than just the instruction set, because you can’t have an instruction set without also defining the numbers and types of registers, the mapping of memory and how the CPU interacts with it, the input/output model for the system, and a bunch of other features like virtual memory, addressing modes etc. Just to give an idea, the ARM reference is 850 pages long.

  • ADHD rule
  • That’s not necessarily true. Myself, and several other people I know, have definitely experienced a boost from stimulants, just not in the same wired way neurotypical people get. Sometimes it feels like a weight off your shoulders that in a way almost feels stimulating. At the very least more talkative.

  • Tough Shit
  • The way I understand it is that your colon will work harder to reclaim water if you’re dehydrated, so staying hydrated will help keep stool softer overall. That said, rehydrating while constipated (or immediately before a bowel movement) won’t make a real difference since the water has already been absorbed from the stool and it can’t add it back.

I would imagine your drinking lots of water before, if you do it consistently, is probably just contributing to your overall hydration which makes it easier next time.

  • She is someone rule
  • It’s fair to read into like that when you usually only hear it used in reference to women. It may not be the intent, but it reframes them as something (daughter, mother, whatever) worthy of empathy rather than someone.

  • ‘Captain America: Brave New World' bombs at test screening
  • Also that he was basically given the job of doing an impression of another actor doing a character rather than being able to do something unique. Joel Kinnaman has an intensity that seems like it would be very hard to imitate.

  • How medical insurance works
  • I have a chronic condition that requires expensive medication. Every. Single. Year. I have to fight insurance to renew the prescription. I went without for months the first time and ended up needing a far more expensive surgery to fix the damage it caused. I was already pretty left-leaning before my diagnosis, but now I don’t believe there is any justification for private anything in healthcare. It’s a completely morally bankrupt business to be making money off of people’s unavoidable suffering.

  • 'Damning non-answer': Vance refuses to acknowledge Trump lost the 2020 election
  • That’s the whole Republican strategy at this point. They realized that any publicity, no matter how crazy they have to be to get it, ultimately benefits them. No matter how well Walz performed, no matter how reasonable and objectively right he is, Vance gets the publicity through his nonstop lies.

  • 👣👣👣
  • I think it’s usually done to let them pretend their being impartial and “equal opportunity” despite never really intending to be. I personally think it’s bullshit, internal promotions are totally valid and shouldn’t be seen as favoritism (unless the candidate is wildly unqualified).

  • Commander Banned and Restricted Announcement – September 23, 2024
  • My issue with bans in Commander is that it is just not an effective way to balance a format with no set restrictions. There are so many cards in all of Magic, there is no way to create a properly balanced game without an extensive ban-list that completely changes the identity of the format.

That said, I think your idea of something like Vintage Commander as a separate thing could be a good one. Have a more balanced ban-list if people want it, while also having an (almost) no ban version. Though they should still try and ban cards that clearly don’t work in multiplayer.

  • Preference
  • Ibuprofen probably isn’t stable for a decade. Then again, apparently no one knows for sure! Studies pick an arbitrary amount of time to test and then call that the shelf life if it remains usable. So far it doesn’t seem anyone has had the patience to test the absolute shelf life of ibuprofen

  • "Don't do sick" until you're sick...
  • I just want to offer my two cents as someone who is disabled. I understand you viewpoint, and I don’t think it makes you ableist, but the sentiment definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

1.) You can have that opinion without being ableist, but it’s a pretty insensitive thing to express. I understand you’re probably not going around telling disabled people that, but it can come across as “a disabled life isn’t worth it”, whether you mean it or not.

2.) It’s a blanket sentiment that raises the bar of what you consider to be disabled. Would you really rather die than have autism or ADHD? Or maybe POTS? Or IBD? Disabled is a very broad term that encompasses far more than profound physical disabilities.

Between those two, as someone who is disabled, I’m left wondering whether someone is implying my life isn’t worth living, or that they don’t consider me disabled enough. Again, not trying to come at you or call you ableist, just trying to explain how it could possibly come across poorly.

  • "Don't do sick" until you're sick...
  • I have IBD, which is something that often requires surgery. I’ve seen so many people online shaming IBD sufferers for getting parts of their colon removed rather than “just trying keto/vegan/whatever”, as if they wouldn’t have died without the surgery. It infuriates me to no end that they blame the victims of these diseases, like we haven’t all tried god knows how many diets to get the pain to stop.

  • Amazon's Monopoly of the tech industry is ruining the US economy
  • Having worked at a Target like this, I can assure you there is still a lack of inventory on top of these stores being extremely short staffed. Target in particular completely eliminated their storeroom staff a few years ago and just doubled the work load of the floor staff. Both the floor and the storeroom were absolute nightmares to navigate because there were not enough people to actually organize and stock.
