People on Mastodon...are there a lot of users who just spam stars and boosts like mad to get followers? Some posts seem to get a ton of instant, rapid interaction even though I only have 13 followers
  • Mastodon really runs on direct post engagement, especially boosts, to make the whole thing work without an algorithm

It’s very similar to tumblr in that a boost is supposed to function like a like/upvote to spread content, since no automated algorithm is going to suggest that post for you.

But I’m sure people are also trying to grow their networks quick, since it’s sort of a hollow experience without it

  • Musk threatens to sue researchers who documented the rise in hateful tweets
  • That may be true for the biggest and most far-reaching things he does, but we don’t need to know every daily controversy with changing the signage on a San Francisco building. It’s overload.

Every tweet he puts out with an ignorant opinion is probably not newsworthy enough to be disseminated widely; that’s actually exactly what he would want to happen.

Even dropping from 4 major Musk related outrage stories a day to a couple a week would be a much healthier discourse, without stamping out any important information like your concerned about.

  • It feels like the Streisand effect is negatively impacting me/everyone else in this instance

I despise the guy, but I’m tired of hearing about every stupid exploit. He’s so fabulously rich that no negative publicity can really cause reprecussions, I feel like it now just keeps him constantly in the public eye a la Trump circa 2016

Go Woke, Go Broke? Barbie’s Opening Weekend Sales Smash Expectations
  • Does woke mean shoehorned or pandering? I feel like “woke” media is labeled as such because of its fundamental socially progressive ideals, and those negative connotations are added by opponents to try and tear down media that’s been designated “woke”

Compared to all the other movies, games and other media that is given the “woke” moniker, Barbie was very firmly “woke”

It spoke directly about how the US and world is a male-dominated patriarchy, and spent the last act going explicitly over in great detail the negatives for women in their gender roles, especially when dealing with men and male partners.

If any other show had even one of the major plot points or lines from this movie, it would be labeled “woke.”
