  • Something like a Vacancy Tax would be helpful in insuring that more housing is available, it would do little to create more home ownership because the land itself is expensive even if nothing is on it.

I see this as smart use of land. Instead of another Big Box store and sprawling parking lot the city gets the store and 800 more apartments in the same footprint.

That it works just fine for my purposes. When it does not I will switch to Wayland but I have no reason to at the moment.

  • They were there and they were superior to the alternatives almost out of the gate. I was working for a video game company at the time and me and the rest of the IT dept made the switch almost immediately because the results were clearly superior. Made me an advocate for them for years, probably far beyond where I should have given up. I am not sure which product cancellation finally changed my mind on them. Probably it was around the mess of Google Talk/Chat/Hangouts mess of apps.

  • I have actually taken to downloading 1080p versions of things I have access to in 4kHDR from Disney and Amazon. Frankly I can not stand HRD/Dolby Vision versions of things. No matter how I adjust my TV they still suffer from that ghastly soap-opera effect. To me having the background bright and in focus flattens the image making everything look like a bad set. It also makes the tiny differences in lighting of digital effects elements more noticeably.

    I hate it.

  • [GDT] Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers - 08:00PM EDT
  • Well I can fill it up with some chitchat!

After the asswhoopin the Oilers put on Florida in game4 you could see the adjustments making a difference. Though the Oilers won games 5 & 6 the Cats were figuring out how to get back to playing their game, and in game7 were back on form. The Oilers on the other hand fell back onto old habits. They shows in games 4-6 that there was some depth there and it was pushing them over the top. Last night they leaned so heavily on their top line, especially in the 3rd, that by the end of the game they were gassed. When they finally pulled Skinner they had nothing left and Florida could grind the clock for the last couple of minutes.

  • Something like 90% of hydrogen is produced from methane and coal, so there clearly are reasons. Most likely cost effectiveness.

Add carbon dioxide to the hydrogen, and you get methane that you can transport through existing gas pipelines

Well sure, since those pipes are already transporting methane. I dont think requiring each home to have its own methane pyrolysis infrastructure is particularly practical or efficient either.

  • Most hydrogen is produced from natural gas so would not really be a replacement for the foreseeable future. Gas infrastructure is not designed for transporting hydrogen so leaks would be significant. Hydrogen can also penetrate into steel piping and cause it to crack and deteriorate more rapidly.

Biogas, sure if there were enough production available.
