  • IMO, this is such a bad idea because many of the people they can imprison here will have networks in the US, and knowledge of places, people and systems. This is a good way to help Bukele build an insurgent army. Some criminals will already have weapons training. The dude was already buying bitcoin to undermine the supremacy of the U.S. dollar, why the hell does anyone think he’s a friend or has good intentions?

  • The only reason some people don’t like the Nordic model is because it has the word Nordic in it. If instead it was the Marxist model, I am sure they’d say it sprung forth from gods own asshole

Edit again, downvote brigade of Marxists butthurt on being called out, lol

  • The only time America loses its mind is when there’s a national security threat. I don’t know what’s going on here, but all of these allowances seem totally out of the norm, so I am going to guess it’s something like that.

  • So I say somewhere else that one shouldn’t bother with this comic because its assumptions are flawed, but let’s point out exactly how because otherwise Marxists will live in the flawed understanding that their pov is unchallenged or inherently correct.

    — the alien assumes for some magical reason a property cannot be owned, specifically a factory. A factory is not a natural product of the world, there’s not tree growing factories. Someone put in an investment to create it, and the work they allocate in that factory is a recoupment of that factory building investment.

    — the workers obey “pieces” of paper because that’s what society decided is civilized behavior. The alternative is one where a factory owner decides to kill people for trying to take what’s theirs, or the workers decide to kill the factory owner to take over. Either way, there is violence and bloodshed.

Marxist believe, for whatever magical reasons, that the violence will stop once they seize the means of production. But why should it? Why wouldn’t another subgroup of Marxists constantly want to challenge the committees who want to run that specific factory? The answer is that without a rule or agreement (piece of paper), various groups will constantly try to seize what they think should be theirs.

    — the alien believes that agreeing to work with someone is slavery. Here I have two things to say: 1) for someone who doesn’t want to work, then any kind of work will appear to be slavery, and that’s not a a capitalism problem, that’s a self actualization problem for some people. 2) in reasonable economies, people have choices for places to work, or unions which ensure that employers cannot abuse them, or laws which ensure protections.

The fact is simply this, whenever two people interact, they will have disagreements. We make laws to not kill each other over those disagreements. If you want to experience what it’s like living in an authoritarian state, try living in china or Vietnam. Rule of law means little or nothing in such places, whereas in democracies you can still get some recourse via the courts, or via regulations. Have kleptocrats and oligarchs ruined democracies, yes definitely.

    — being a larger class doesn’t necessarily mean anything in violent conflict. I think any philosophy which relies on violent conflict to achieve its goals is tacitly admitting that it cannot win the hearts and minds of people via ideas alone.

Edit to say, I have a busy day ahead so I wont be responding lol, but doesn’t mean I agree or don’t want to challenge this vapid Marxist pov

And once more: lol @ downvoters constantly butthurt that their Marxist pov is challenged

  • The point of many .ml lemmy posts is to pretend that Marxism and Leninism are the best ideas created and can never do no wrong. The point isn’t to be correct, factual, or entertaining.

Let’s not even bother with the flawed assumptions made by the aliens in the comic.

lol @ downvoters constantly butthurt that their Marxist pov is challenged

  • It is, but that’s not the premise I was challenging. I was challenging the premise that this company did nothing new, or that open source is always ethical tech.

  • Because I think the people who criticize the nordic model are simply biased towards achieving an outcome where the workers seize the means of production. That’s why, to them, anything else is wrong, or simply an untenable solution. I am saying that their point of view is not only incorrect, but also lacks insight outside of their own way of thinking.

  • Kropotkin is wrong, the data existed but it was made usable in a new way by methods which would not have existed without this company.

Secondly, open source is not the only ethical form of technology, that’s an inherently biased and simplistic way to think. In fact, having access to some types of tech or information can make the world less safe or more unethical.

Edit corrected sentence, and lol @ downvoters constantly butthurt that their Marxist pov is challenged

  • The Nordic model, but authoritarian people only care about winning, not solutions.

Edit lol @ downvoters constantly butthurt that their Marxist pov is challenged

  • Dont care if this is fake, just feel like floating some ideas in case someone fr is stuck like this.

    — try volunteering with online-only things which don’t require social interaction, like maintaining a code base, maintaining a wiki (on a topic of your choice), doing translation/digitizing or other services for a library.

    — do work via Amazon mechanical Turks or similar services.

    — read about how to self-care for autistic personalities, or people with neurodivergent traits. Just read everything you can find on the topic.

    — volunteer for non-invasive research with universities, like answering psych questions. You’ll get some pocket change. I’d advise against volunteering for clinical stuff where you inject stuff into your body or take pills, it’s too risky.

    — join an online dnd group, or other game group.

    — don’t talk to people about being vulnerable or lonely, unless you can tell the difference between predators (who prey on lonely people) and normal people.

    — get a certification in something, whatever you like. Doesn’t have to be programming or coding related. At least start learning for it, and preparing for it in some way. Don’t spend money on training materials till you know what you want for real. If you don’t have money for training materials, do a gofundme.

    — volunteer at your local library, or national parks service to clean up trails.

    — volunteer with your local church or food bank or homeless shelter.

    — I cannot stress this enough, don’t open to strangers you don’t know/trust unless you’re sure they’re not a predator. Emotionally vulnerable people are like moths to a flame for such people. Read about the signs of narcissistic or cult-like influencer personalities.

And idk what else, but I’ll leave it here. Don’t know if the above would work for everyone, and I am open to corrections

  • Disagree, but I propose this: the universe is infinite, maybe then we should just have a planet where the socioeconomic system is capitalist, and another one where the socioeconomic system is communist/marxist. I don’t care about winning or being right. I want to live freely, and I want that for others as well.

Better nations on Earth already use what’s known as the Nordic model to help offset the adverse effects of capitalism. Cue (and queue) people who’ll say that “that only works because the ‘imperialists’ exploit the global south”. So again, let’s just make it easier for people who don’t want to live in a world like that.

  • Stalin is one good example of LWA leaders, others are Ho Chi Minh, Khrushchev etc. If given the chance and power, some fourth wave feminists would definitely become such leaders themselves. The core issue is tribalism and the belief that just because someone subscribes to your ideology they are “good”, and everyone else is “bad”.

That said, I think the thing authoritarianism denies people is self-actualization. As long as someone is not denying the self actualization of another, they’re not authoritarian. This isn’t about centrism or liberalism, this is about letting societies decide things for themselves while minimizing hurt to others because of sociopathy or callousness. From my pov, authoritarianism doesn’t respect human rights or freedoms in favor of tribalism.

  • The best response to a quran burning free speech troll is to copy their free speech, burn a bible etc. who cares? It’s all nonsense anyways, and people need to get over it. There’s no need for violence or bloodshed

  • That’s a bold prediction, but I really don’t think this is a body count type of situation. I think they’re trying to deter new illegal immigrants from coming in by scaring them about jailing them. At the very least, I hope all countries involved do the responsible adult thing, and help out the poor people who effectively dont have a home.

If it turns into a body count type of situation, that’s inviting civil war, and I don’t think anyone wants that. Whatever it is, at the end of it Republicans and Democrats are pro-America and pro-Americans.

  • I shared the article because I saw some nuggets of constitutional checks working, like the judge saying he couldn’t end birth right citizenship. I hate the idea of people getting worked up the same way J6ers did and think the world is ending.

The lack of information and flurry of information together could create a bad situation like J6, I sincerely hope it doesn’t come to that or worse.

  • This is dumb, you can do America First policies and have FDR-type socialism, or Nordic model policies, together. American permanent residents and citizens should get benefits they pay for via their taxes. Simple.

  • Liberalism is centrism.

  • Good point, I should clarify that’s not what I was saying. I was saying that it reminds me of the same online reactions prior to it happening.

  • Tbh, I am coming to terms with my own vulnerability to fall for leftist propaganda.
