Does Cursed Infusion not upgrade the Spirit Bow?
  • Yup. I used all my infusions trying for something good (apparently Annoying is good but I didn't know).

I didn't have any infusions after hitting Lvl 30 and was hoping that it retroactively would turn into a +2

  • Does Cursed Infusion not upgrade the Spirit Bow?
  • Ah, so the bow must have been +4, which the curse upgraded to +5.

The run is over so I can't test it, but if I'm understanding this correctly, you would have to be at level 30 before using the Cursed Infusion to get it to +8?

Kind of a shame imo. Thanks〜

  • Does Cursed Infusion not upgrade the Spirit Bow?

New to alchemy in general, apologies if I say something incorrect.

I used a Cursed Infusion on a +5 Bow (might have been +4?) and it didn't upgrade it at all.

After drinking 4 Potions of Experience to get to Level 30, the Bow only levelled up to +6 and stayed there after I removed the curse.

I've seen people get to +8 so I must have done something wrong.

Trinkets: How are beginners handling them?
  • Thanks a tonne! I tried the gradual approach and it definitely works :)

Imo, unintuitively, experimenting with alchemy is easier in the lategame when resources are abundant and stuff's identified.

For some reason, I was under the impression that the recipe book didn't contain catalysts but they do! Quite convenient and works as a great checklist~

  • Trinkets: How are beginners handling them?
  • I'm a beginner (played before but getting back into the game)

They either seem really minor (Vial of Blood ime) or run defining (Eye of Newt was great on Assassin)

Alchemy was a pretty intimidating system to get into, but Trinkets, because they're self contained and seemed to promise a minor effect, were a fun, low resource cost way to experiment.

I usually just make whatever seems fun and discard it if it proves harmful or if I need the inventory space. Upgrading them doesn't seem worth it, but I dump excess energy into them if I have redundant consumables in the Caves.

I love the fact that they can be discarded when needed, so their effects could totally be made riskier imo, but that could make them tedious to manage.

My current run has a +3 Exotic Crystals, which I took because I'm less familiar with exotic pops, and while I didn't like what I was getting, I kept it because I knew I could throw it away if I got low on regular stuff. This led to a fun encounter where I got surrounded, and popped a Purity potion followed by a Corrosion potion. I would never have made a Corrosion pot, but now I have a good reason to thanks to the Trinket :)

  • Preferred Control Scheme for Desktop?
  • I use vi-keys as well and agree with this.

I play DCSS a lot and miss autoexplore more than Shift move, but that wouldn't be enough to get me to play with keyboard in SHPD.

To add to this, the autorepeat causes a tiny bit of delay when moving (I think it registers a move on key release rather than press?), and there don't seem to be keyboard shortcuts within menus (at least for item interaction).

Touchscreen/Mouse works well enough and it feels novel since most roguelikes don't implement them.

  • Cubing Question: Are there other notations for cube moves that include middle layer rotations and/or using different colors as top/right/front?
  • Not sure if I completely understand your question, and how this would affect dice patterns, but I think you're looking for the advanced notation here.

For rotations, just use x, y, & z moves from a fixed orientation (most people start with White on Top & Green in Front) or specify the center colors directly. Just mentioning the color on top isn't enough info btw.

    Cube Purchase Advice
  • Good purchases imo. The WRM 21 is my main!

They're also both very different cubes: The WRM is fairly flexible and the Super RS3M (v1) is quite blocky (It also has weak magnets). Dunno about the other Super RS3Ms (v2, v5).

Note that the Super v1 is very different from the RS3M 2020. I've never tried one, but from what I've heard the 2020 should be somewhere in between the 2.

  • Cube Purchase Advice
  • The WRM 2021, WRM Maglev or Tornado v3 are great because you can adjust the strength of their magnets.
Any other WR M and most other cubes have really strong magnets and don't have adjustment features at all.
You wouldn't wanna be stuck with a cube that's hard to turn.

Adjustable magnets can have an annoying clicking sound though.

I've heard the RS3M 2020 (that zarxrax recommended) has weak magnets, which is great. They won't click and annoy you and if you wanna try out stronger magnets, you can buy additional magnets and add them in (very easy).

  • Solved My First Cube w/o Video Today!
  • Again, I might be wrong, but:

Full PLL is 1 look PLL. Using 1 algorithm to solve PLL.
Full OLL is also 1 look and uses only 1 alg.

Are you sure you meant 4 look PLL and not 4 look LL (Last Layer)? That would use 2 look PLL and 2 look OLL.

  • Solved My First Cube w/o Video Today!
  • Speedsolving Wiki has good info on terminology.

CFOP is a method (more optimized version of LBL(Layer by Layer))

PLL is an algorithm set used to Permute the Last Layer (which can be split into 2 steps or looks). I'm not familiar with CFOP so I don't know if 4 look PLL is a thing.

I use the Roux method and I highly recommend trying out other methods! It's harder to learn them once you're set in your ways :P
