I think the spread of cable television also played a big role in this. It seems that the public broadcasters were too left-wing for Kohl. It was hoped that the private channels would provide more sympathetic coverage or at least a better distraction.

If you are located in Germany or nearby definitely check out Blackbeards. The service is really good.

I'm using their own brand shavette with (currently) Astra blades and am very happy with it. I also use the green Proraso shaving cream. Should I ever run out of it I'll try one of Meißner Tremonia.
