  • I installed Pop!_OS on a Thinkpad and made it my main work computer. It is the most boring computing experience ever. Nothing ever breaks. It just works.

  • Pass. I don't think I want to hang out for the sequel.

  • Can someone explain the concept and etymology of "egg"? I am wholly uninformed and search engines are now shit.

  • "Wait...what?!? You get one little school shooting and you change your laws? Just one?!? That's just crazy." -- The United States of America

  • In 2015 we were poised for revolution. Two "radical" voices screaming for change. On the left we had Bernie Sanders and on the right Donald Trump. Trump & company strong armed and essentially did a coup on the Republican party. The left successfully squashed the progressive movement because they didn't want to threaten their comforts. We got Trump.

That fear of change from "the left" has led us down a slippery slope of nationalism, authoritarianism, oligarchy, and an all around cyberpunk hellscape.

  • I genuinely do not know, hopefully someone else here can tell us, but I have seen Bluesky on Mastadon.

  • When the inside of a septic tank is less shitty than the outside world.

  • As others have corrected, Bluesky isn't Activity Pub based. Instead they have made a bridge for compatibility.

  • woah... everyone like saw this on reddit.

One of the commenters from the original post shared it on Reddit.

    how does bluesky work anyway?

    It is basically Twitter 2.0

why do they have instance names like on fedi?

I believe Bluesky is Fediverse compatible can interact with the Fediverse through an ActivityPub bridge. I am not familiar enough to know exactly how it works. That said, if you own a URL, you can set it as your username. For example, John Scalzi (the author) linked his account to his URL so now his username is @scalzi.com.

they are not decentralized, are they?

Not at the moment but the protocol allows for it IIRC.

EDIT: Corrected my incorrect amd misleading comment.

  • Is the upcoming season of For All Mankind the last one?

  • That pizza gatekeeping

  • I am 100% certain that you can take samples of that and make an amazing, experimental doom metal album.

    • Aww, that's sweet. You're such a good friend.
