Beehaw on Lemmy: The long-term conundrum of staying here
  • Hugs, y'all. Do what you feel is best. <3

I've been on Discuit more than Lemmy, but honestly? If Beehaw defederates or switches to a different platform, I'm more likely to visit Beehaw on a daily basis than I have been. I just prefer well-tended walled gardens. I grew up with forums being the way. Smaller communities feel the best. Even when the software base is good, the community management part is ... complicated with the fediverse.

  • informal PSA: i am (and have been) on indefinite break
  • Hugs. Try to be gentle with yourself. <3

  • Reddit Refugees on Lemmy, how are you guys liking lemmy so far?
  • It's fine, but I don't enjoy having to deal with federation stuff. It's doable, but it's not intuitive, and everything is a bit too disorganized.

  • Meta’s Twitter competitor launches on July 6th, according to the App Store
  • Hoping we defederate from them proactively - I wouldn't give them any more info than they already have...

Bluesky temporarily halts sign-ups because so many people are joining from Twitter
  • Any Beehawians (Beehawans? Cowbees?) looking for a Twitter replacement might consider Counter.Social - it has a similar vibe to Beehaw and Tildes. It is not federated but is using a lot of Mastodon code. The community sets it apart - and the owner's insistence on no ads, no algo, security, privacy, etc.

It's been around a few years and the infrastructure was upgraded with the last bit Twitter exodus, so CoSo remains stable where Bluesky and some others have been screwy. You can find me there with the same username - say hi if you pop in!
