Let's be honest. Developers will always look for the easiest way to complete the development of a game. Baldurs Gate 3 is a rare exception, sadly. You just have to look at all the news coming out these days from other developers saying that BG 3 shouldn't be the standard for quality games.

Xbox's decision is the right one, let the Series S gamer have parity with Series X. We gamers need to learn to be more patient.

Series S is the best choice. Of course the initial investment will be higher but you will have a new generation console that will last for the next 10 years. It's worth it.
