yeah, it was one of my favorite jobs because of that feeling of contribution. there were a couple houses where I cleaned the gutters of people who really thought we were tree-hugger wackos but hey free gutter cleaning, except I could tell the talk about their neighbors being sick and wanting to find evidence to hold that big company accountable actually gave them some pause. 🤷 cleaning someone's gutters is a small price to pay to make them rethink their situation and reconsider their best interests, if only for a moment.
how much they're legally obligated to "find" and report to you really varies, as does whether they need any kind of certification at all to go into that line of work
the inspection that was done on the house we live in missed a lot of stuff, some of which became pretty fucking obvious once we had done a little bit of home improvement diy – like, there was a whole section of ductwork between the hvac and the upstairs that was disconnected and venting into the space between the floors, and it was totally obvious to the untrained eye looking with a flashlight in the right spot, you just needed to know where to look. we lived here 18 months before we decided to investigate why the hall floor always felt so wildly warm/cold compared to the rest of the house and saw it in the first 30 seconds of peering around the HVAC area.
so yeah, moral of the story is, don't put your faith in them. dude found some obvious, surface-level code-breaking things, but there was no actual inspection of the infrastructure of the house, and we ended up finding a lot wrong. that broken ductwork wasn't even the tip of the iceberg.
is that the podcast with Bryan from Street Fight? is it any good? I heard him guest on another podcast around the time that it launched and was interested but wasn't sure if it was worth diving in
have never known a kid or animal that didn't need to be taught not to fear them so 🤷 while I think they're pretty, they don't seem worth the terrible things they put so many of my comrades through
started a "small business" to make our small engine repair above-board, and then did an "entrepreneur bootcamp" thinking that would be helpful, but beyond the basics anyone can google, it was entirely focused on how to make your business attractive to investors 🤮
you probably will. if you're actively engaged in stuff you care about, you're going to come across other people who are similarly engaged or related in some way to people who are engaged in The Work, and someone in that group is eventually going to be someone you're mutually attracted to
someone in another thread was trying to say this wasn't happening, but I've been seeing people on /r/Ohio for months saying they were libs doing the same thing 🤷
gonna be a very interesting holiday season – I do not expect an instant election result.
which left has nukes?!? I know they're not talking about DPRK
