  • Solid state tech using minerals and metals for interstellar travel.

Squishy meatbag for living and reproducing on a goldilocked planetoid.

We should just turn into comets for the purpose of travelling 🐌 slow but effective

  • The AI bill that has Big Tech panicked
  • what enriches lives:

    1. solving world hunger
    2. doing the taxes and other boring stuff
    3. translation
    4. replacing corrupt governments
    5. cheaper living

what we use AI for instead:

    1. making society, artists, already poor people poorer
    2. making life more complicated thanks to increased joblessness
    3. causing more polarisation and conflict
    4. helping corrupt governments
    5. more expensive living

why invent an AI that eats ice cream for you when instead, it should do the dishes and pass the butter?

  • Truth
  • high exposure is used on almost any high-level landscape photography, even during daylight and not exclusively auroras. there is nothing wrong with squeezing down a couple of minutes into one picture for a better visualization

  • Truth
  • but that's great. using long exposure is a skill that is highly regarded in the photographers community. early photo plates needed exposure for at least 7 minutes, requiring the subject to stand completely motionless. quite a challenge.

  • Truth
  • I am all with you on editing images and creating a "fake" reality on social platforms.

But this poses the question: how much has digital tech become part of our perception and is digitally enhancing a picture really much of a difference if it just helps us see more of the actual reality? I don't think increasing exposure and contrast is changing reality, it just squeezes down what we cannot see so easily and makes it visible in that narrow slit that our human perception can actually process. We use digital editing nowadays that it has become part of our whole process of perceiving reality, so much so that the digital picture litterally replaces what we saw with our eyes - simply because digital photography has become an extension, much like glasses, shoes, cars are litterally a part of our body.

Imho as long as it doesn't create pixels from scratch that weren't there in the first place, it is still viable to polish a picture of the sky to make it more appealing. I mean no buttcheeks were enhanced here, no eyes replaced or lips turned i to a grotesque sausage mouth freakshow 😅

  • new Garmin Connect v5.0
  • It adds the functionality to plan your own workout routes, which is a killer feature if you ask me. Can't do that on Strava without paying €€€ for their overpriced subscription

  • YouTube Tests Showing Ads When You Pause a Video, Calls it ''Pause Ads''
  • iOS app is pure garbage. Before adding more ad functionality, how about fixing those annoying swipe gesture bugs first? After a double ad, it is impossible for me to exit full screen by swiping down. Also, auto zoom to fill screen works only with 85% of videos, why is that?

  • Strozzapreti alla nduja (spicy sausage and tomato pasta)
  • Haha yeah, those are in the wrong packaging 😂 I must admit when I google these, you get a lot of mixed results. However, Wikipedia has a correct picture of them. They look more like twisted/twirled pieces rather than weird macaroni.

    Bug: Editing your Comment

I noticed strange behavior when editing a comment.

So I was writing a comment and noticed mid-writing that a word was mistyped. I hadn't submitted the comment yet and I do have autocorrect disabled. I corrected the word using the auto-suggestion and it got changed. I finished my comment and submitted it but....the word I had changed was mistyped again!

I re-opened my comment, changed the word back and then went to the end of that comment to add another paragraph. After sending, the mistyped word was back again!

And so I reopened the comment a second time to edit it again, for the third time :3

Something is up with the comment editor and the submittal process.

Just reporting the bugs and hoping to make Memmy the new King app of Lemmy apps 👍🐸 👑

PS: The german version now looks so much better. Thank you for changing haha!

[Feature Request] Edit Post after posting

I noticed that it is impossible to go back and edit your post from inside the Memmy app once a post is made. I can only do that via the web interface.

[Appreciation Post] Holy shit Memmy got so good with latest release

I want to say thank you again to Culivio and all the users working to improve the app. This recent update is mindblowing! Good job!

If you haven't done so yet, I suggest going into the app store and giving Lemmy 5 stars here:

    Memmy App Store Page

I would love to give you guys a tip at some point. Where can I do that? I couldn't find anything in the app settings.

    Cheers! 🍻

    [Bug] Text prompt cut off

When writing a comment or post, the area that displays the text editor is cut off midway. Most of the remaining text is just hidden and for someone who doesn't know it seems like it got deleted somehow.

[Feature Request] Lists in Post content

Sorry for asking so much today haha. This one can probably go way lower on the priority list. You can send the invoice to /u/spez 👹

So what would be super handy to have, is a list button for both, numeric and non-numeric lists in a post.

Additionally, it should detect if someone starts writing a list with either numerics followed by a dot or a simple plus "+" or "*" asterisk followed by a space to convert it into a bullet.

There needs to be a converting mechanism to detect these lists and convert them back into that same syntax if you want to go back and edit a post or comment, naturally.

Thanks for all the hard work 🙌

    German Translation...

Allright, I had a good laugh at the translation of the "Create Post" Button. I'm a native german speaker and it makes me feel a little nostalgic but also it has a touch too much satire. I think a more professional way to translate this button would be one of these:

    1. "Post schreiben"
    2. "Beitrag Schreiben"
    3. "Neuer Beitrag"
    4. "Beitrag"

(Depending on how much space is available)

[Feature Request] Open Youtube links with Youtube App?

Right now, when I click the thumbnail of a post that links to a site or Youtube, it just opens the post page.

Wouldn't it be more fluid if the app directly opens the Youtube app if installed? Just a suggestion...

Bug: Exiting picture view with swipe gesture

On most pictures, exiting out of the viewing page by swiping down does not seem to work reliably. If the picture is covering at least around 60% of the display, swiping works ok, but anything smaller than that, and the picture "bounces" back into view and I can only exit via the "X" button.
