  • @elston@noauthority.social @palestine@a.gup.pe @adachika192@hcommons.social @palestine@lemmy.ml It's an example of a ridiculous (but yes, temporary) ban. We also are aware that other school libraries are using the same list - I know of at least one non military school affiliated library that also enforces this list "to be safe".

  • @palestine@a.gup.pe @adachika192@hcommons.social @palestine@lemmy.ml @elston@noauthority.social To be fair most memes are illegal in the US too and just rarely enforced. Copyright law is real, and the bar for fair use is not zero.

Germany has long standing bans for "emblems of anti constitutional organizations" (i.e. swastikas), incitement to hatred ("Volksverhetzung") and of course copyright violations too. All three, BTW, forced on Germany by the US after WW2 for the first two and the latter was primarily US induced along the lines of DMCA, too. As such, Americans have no right to complain - their own country made it so, Germany is to blame only for listening to 'Murica at all (but it is not like they had a choice for the first two).

Fun fact: you think incitement memes are legal in the US? Think again. People get anti harassment court orders for less, and recently these orders also remove constitutional rights to self defense (something both Biden and Trump are in favor of).

  • @palestine@a.gup.pe @adachika192@hcommons.social @palestine@lemmy.ml @elston@noauthority.social The issue is not that he is right, but that he is such a hypocrite. The US have been silencing dissent for over a decade now.

Recently they banned a picture book about a girl with freckles from nearly all libraries (as almost all US libraries are school affiliated). The book has nothing LGBTQ or whatever in it. Nothing about slavery. The only issue is that its author votes the other party. THAT is where the US are, and have been for the last decade - because of course the left also restricted speech when in power.

  • @adachika192@hcommons.social @palestine@lemmy.ml @palestine@a.gup.pe The venue, Kühlhaus Berlin, faced immense pressure from German politicians and the Berlin police to cancel the event. This is not only a disgrace but a direct assault on the rule of law and the core principles of democracy. It also represents an attack on businesses coerced into submission through mafia-like tactics, where intimidation has reached alarming extremes.

Note that there's no law that bans her. If the venue wants to keep here, there's nothing said politicians can do.

But yes, +1 to Junge Welt to provide an alternative platform.

  • @elston@noauthority.social @adachika192@hcommons.social @palestine@lemmy.ml @palestine@a.gup.pe You know, unlike some other country that Trump may be familiar with, Germany has freedom of speech. Everyone is indeed allowed to call Robert #Habeck a Schwachkopf.

Try being in Orcistan and calling Vladimir Vladimirovich a Дурак. That'll end quite differently.
